Mad Man...

“Tick-tock, tick-tock”, on the clock, how long has it been? 1, 2, 3 years? Who knows? Sitting at the same table with the same seats for so long, it’s enough to make a man go mad. I know what you are thinking… I’M NOT MAD! The same wooden table, with the same wooden chairs. I’m not sure know how long it’s been. All I know is that I’ve been at this same tea table for years. The same door mouse, hare, grinning cat, and white rabbit keeping me company. Victoria thought I was mad. So she left me. SHE LEFT ME ALL ALONE! She said I changed. Heh, she said I was CRAZY. She told me she couldn’t handle it anymore. “Hallucinations” She said. She told me that cats can’t grin…. That animals can’t talk!

“I’m not mad.” I exclaimed. Then she left… I clenched my hair in my fist. Tears pricked my eyes and threatened to fall. I got up and flipped the table.

“Tick-tock, tick-tock” The ticking got louder. “Stop it!” I internally screamed. The door mouse tries to calm me down. My breathing became shallower. Quiet sobs escaped my lips, which were littered with cuts from constantly biting my them. My head was pounding. The clock whispered in my ear…

“Crazy?”

“No.”

“Insane?”

“Stop it!”

“Mad?”

“SHUT UP!”

“Stop it, stop talking!” I yell… Hearing without listening, talking without speaking… “Save me from this hell!”. Suddenly something in my mind snapped, my once crystal blue eyes; now dull and lifeless.

“Heh…”

“Hehe…”

“Heh, heh, HAHAHA!”

I laughed, and laughed, and laughed some more. She was right! I’m utterly mad!

“I’m sorry for ever doubting you Victoria! Hahaha! CAN YOU HEAR ME MY LOVE? Hahaha!” I kept laughing and laughing. One hand covering my mouth to muffle my laughter, and one around my stomach, I bent over trying to ease the pain I felt in my side from laughing so hard. Tears streamed down my face. My laughter died and turned into weeping. I cried softly.

“Victoria.” I said softly

“Tick-tock, tick-tock” I said mimicking the clock on my wall.

“I miss you Victoria.” I look at the picture of us hung on the wall. I smiled. Memories are so persistent; why did you leave me? I love you so much. My silent sobbing turned into historical crying. I picked up the picture and threw it to the ground. The glass shattered mimicking the sundering of my heart long ago.

“Tick-tock, tick-tock.” I said again. Falling to my knees, I picked up a piece of glass in my hands. The fragile clear glass cut my fingers and the palm of my hand. I watched crimson blood trickle down my arm. The blood slowly gathered at my elbow.

“Drip, drip” Goes the liquid into my auburn wooden floor. The blood stuck out like a sore thumb on the shiny surface.

“Heh. What a pretty color.” I smiled and stood up. Looking at myself in the mirror I see the dark circle under my eyes from lack of sleep. My eyes looked like the glass. Shattered and broken. A sadistic smile creped its way into my pail face.

“Tick-tock, tick-tock.” Goes the clock. “How long has it been? I don’t know and don’t care for time is a mere illusion. Though, it just happens that my time is up.? I say as my vision blurs. My body hits the ground and I smile. The last thing I hear is my servants rushing into my room screaming my name…
