I am making this post for a few reasons. 1, to clear my conscience for something that's been bugging me ever since I started playing on Loka, and 2, to spread awareness and a goodhearted message to all players. This is not to bring a bad light on anyone, to gain pity points, or for any personal benefit.
I've been on the Loka forums a lot lately and have been looking at all the unban/unmute appeals and discussions about punishments on Loka. It's been bringing up to my mind one time that I once cheated on Loka. It's a pretty funny but pathetic story. It's been nearly two years. I used to have and use an x-ray texturepack. The main reason I had it was because I'd use it on another server where it was allowed. I guess having it in my resourcepack list made it tempting to use it on other servers as well. I'd mostly use it in spawns of servers because I'd always be curious to see hidden developer or testing rooms hidden in the walls. Pretty pointless, but I loved knowing secrets.
However, one unfortunate evening when I was exploring the Ruins of Auru, I was collecting loads of loot. At the time I thought it was very valuable loot, but looking back at it, the only valuable things I could recall was maybe a bit of regular Ruin Lootbag loot and a few old Clownfish with weights on them. So I happened my way into the sewers underneath Auru and a Skeleton ended up killing me. I was fuming and my heart was racing. In the moment I HAD to get all that loot back. I rushed back to Auru and could not find the sewers for the life of me. I simply could not remember how to get back to them. The thought quickly flashed my mind, "you have an x-ray texturepack, just use it for a minute to find your loot." The thought was too tempting because I knew the clock was ticking, so I went into my settings and enabled it.
Due to my less-than-stellar device, it took probably a full minute, maybe two for it to load, costing me most of the valuable time. I quickly started regretting enabling it, but it finally loaded and I was excited to quickly locate my items. However, what I didn't know about was Loka's excellent anti-x-ray system. I could not see a thing underground. All the mish-mashed blocks underneath the ground mixed with the transparent blocks on the surface made it even more difficult to navigate around and look for my items. I was panicking and ran around looking everywhere. I eventually found the sewers. I was excited and happy to get my loot back. I recognized the part of the sewers I was in and rushed towards where I died. I saw my loot and ran over to it...
Just for it all to despawn right in front of me.
I was devastated, and in a fit of rage I closed the game and swiftly deleted my x-ray texturepack, vowing to never use or reinstall it again, which I have stayed true to that promise.
I feel that the stress and loss I felt that day and the following days as well as the guilt I've felt ever since has been enough of a punishment for me.
This goes to show that simply having cheats can really influence you at any moment. If in the offchance you do happen to use cheats or have them, always make sure to disable them fully or have them unaccessible so you have to restart your game in order to enable them. Or just don't use them at all. And for those who don't use cheats, please never try to. They can be tempting and anyone can fall susceptible to them, even me. Even if you think you'll only use them on allowed servers or you think you will get away with it, not everyone is lucky, and there can always be a circumstance that will change your mind.
I would like to state again that I am not using this as a means to gain pity points. This has bugged me ever since that day, every time I log onto Loka or even think about Loka and I just figured I should come clean already. If anybody else has something on their mind that they'd like to get off here, feel free to do so. Though, don't take this as an excuse to feel you can get out of breaking the rules. I don't want people saying "well Zackeroni9 cheated once why can't I?" All I really want to say is that you shouldn't cheat on Loka, or break the rules on Loka, or really anywhere else. The punishments may be harsh sometimes, but cheaters deserve nothing less, not even me. It all comes with the grace of the moderators, which may not be so generous on any particular day you may be caught.
TLDR; I cheated once and I severely regret it, and I highly advise nobody ever cheats.
Please don't cheat.
