The Story of Auru

The town beneath the Tower: Chapter 1

Strength through Passion, Power through Knowledge, Order through Community

(Background music, helps make it more fun to read.)

They say every time a wolf howls a legend is born. What they don't mention is that not every legend starts at birth. Sometimes the fickle strings of time and fate interweave to bring forth legends in the most unlikely of places. Here in Loka, a new legend found its beginning.

Two howls, two people, together, would bring forth a legend. Grubul and Ajaxan were destined by the wolf's howl to spark a legacy that would last through the ages. These two brothers, separated by space and time, bound together to form the town known simply as Auru. In the cold tundras and icy plains of the Northern land of Kalros, Auru was forged.

b16404b6019f464685ed8922a777e422.jpg

On the shore of a large lake Auru began to take shape. Although few in numbers, the people of Auru were highly industrious and quickly began to create mills and farms to feed and house the growing population. As time went on more buildings went up. Although weak and still small, Auru was growing very quickly, drawing the attention of others...

becdbe61eaa6aecd066a697cbef57715.jpg

Auru was inducted into the alliance of Vanaheimr. Surround by new friends and growing quickly. Auru's future looked bright. Lead on by the passion of their leader's Grubul and Ajaxan, the town had nothing to fear.

With so much construction going on Mining became a main goal of the town. Stone, iron and diamond would be needed to feed the growing town. Upon their digging they came upon the ancient ruins of a civilization right beneath their feet. An underground city, filled with forgotten treasures and supplies to feed the growing town.

To this day the ruins remain under the city preserved by the unmoving stone. Perhaps someday more light will be shed on the life of this ancient civilization and their fate will be discovered.

Using the ruins to further increase the wealth of the city, Auru grew even faster. With so much wealth however, raiders began to appear and for the first time Auru found itself fighting for survival. And so construction began on the mighty Tower of Auru. The brothers vowed to make something worthy of the gods themselves. It was to be a monument of innovation, a reminder of the passion of Aurulians. It was to stand for all eternity.

fantasy%20art%20artwork%20drawings%203236x1944%20wallpaper_www.wall321.com_88.jpg

And so construction began. As the tower went up the people of Auru felt safer as they could now fight of invaders from the safety of the Tower. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Despite the protection of the tower, raids continued to plague the town. And so, another decision was made. A mighty wall would be constructed to encompass the entire town. And again, the brothers set out to protect the town they loved so dearly.

With the wall Built Aurulians again felt safe to continue growing as they had before the raids. With the help of their allies Auru was able to drive any last invaders off brave enough to challenge the wall. The Vanaheimr Alliance allowed each town to thrive. Sharing information and technology, they were able to fight off any invaders into Kalros and grow as one. Together they all could prosper.

2KfBsQ7.jpg

Unfortunately all good things come to an end. Without warning Hilo betrayed it's fellow alliance. When they struck, having superior numbers and force, Auru was unable to fight back. With the kings of both Winterfjell and Cerulean seeming to have vanished, no one would come to the aid of the Aurulians. Although Auru itself was safe, its lands and holdings were all but obliterated. And so, in a matter of days, the mighty Vanaheimr alliance ended and Kalros fell to its knees.

jb-casacop-game-of-thrones-betrayal-at-the-wall-by-jbcasacop-d70s5oc.jpg

Seeing their opportunity, invaders from the South came. Attacking everything in their path. Auru hid behind its wall, watching helplessly as invaders stomped carelessly through their homeland. With them, raiders returned in droves. Finding their way over the walls, they fight resumed for the survival of Auru. The Aurulians fought back, determined to defend their home.

(Switch to this music.)

And yet even so the raiders were unrelenting. Over the walls they came, clad in diamond armor with razor sharp swords. Pillaging the town and killing any Aurulians that stood before them. The brothers watched helplessly as the raiders set Auru alight.

And so Auru burned.
02066b759a2be01004f053eab9ddbac4.jpg

Many fell that day. As Auru's enemies came to smother out the spark of life, nearly all was lost in the inferno. Those that remained held the Tower. They heard the screams and the cries. Their home was gone, and nothing would go back to the way it had before.

What had become of the proud and growing town of Auru? In the blink of an eye everything had turned against them and the brothers were powerless to stop it. Everything they had worked for, burned to the ground. A single Tower left standing in a pile of ash. And so those few who remained, safe inside the Tower, lived their lives in seclusion from the outside world. Little was heard of Auru anymore.

The towns fate had taken a tole on the brothers. With their spirits broken, they vanished into the night. With so little left, even the Tower seemed ready to fall, extinguishing the last hope for Auru. It seemed Auru was destined to be a reminder of times past, of what could have been.

But when all hoped seemed lost a new leader rose, Trevster. He united those few survivors and kept Auru alive. They kept the spark of Auru alive. Feeding the generator at its heart that gave the Tower its protective powers. And so it seemed Auru would continue on, yet only a shadow of its former self.

Something had changed in the city though. Limited in the confines of the tower the people grew to hold ingenuity and creation above all else. A master engineer, Trevster lead the people into an age of creation. They repaired the tower, and mastered the mystical material know as redstone. As their knowledge grew the Tower began to come to life. It began to run itself.

Years have passed. As seasons came and went nothing really changed in Auru. At least from the outside... Finally after so long, and no different than the day they left, Ajaxan and Grubul returned. Two brothers once forged by bonds of destiny would again reunite. Their dream, a vision of the future, their legacy. Together with those that had guided Auru during their absence, Auru would rise from the ashes it had so quickly succumbed to.

e3e547c18f2e6e2edd01af8f01c1a5a5.jpg

A new dawn breaks over Auru. New life fills their lungs as they leave the Tower and begin to bring the town back from ruin. The grass has grown long and the animals have returned. This scorched land has recovered just as Auru would.

18yyxz9iovr0ejpg.jpg

A new wall was built. A wall of impenetrable stone. A wall that not even the gods themselves could tear down. And so it began, a new age for Auru. With the wall built raiders could no longer attack the city. Auru was finally safe from those that wished it harm. Perhaps now, Auru could thrive where it once failed. Perhaps now, Auru, the town beneath the Tower, would become the legend it was meant to be.

Seriously though, this is awesome. Love the notes at the end. If I had a fraction of your writing skills... Well, let's just say I am quite jealous of you. :)

It's made me realise, truly, that the present is just as worthy of my attention as the past.

This is probably the biggest disconnect I have with so many of the players who have been around awhile. Y'all knew times when everything was different. Completely different ages of Loka. I'll never be able to experience the past like you, so instead, my hope is that I can make the recent past as interesting as possible. So at least then we will have common memories to look back on.

This was an awesome read. I really love seeing these posts coming up with such effort and thought put into them. I agree; I should like to see many more posts like these about upcoming towns.

Unfortunately this statement isn't entirely accurate. Although this was the original plan, I don't feel right telling the stories of the other leaders. They can do that and I bet they would much prefer to write their own stories than have me do it for them. Instead. I will share my history. I will lay on the table the dark past of my character from his humble beginnings to his fall from power. The entire story will follow real worlds I've encountered and real experiences I've had.

The Story of Auru
The town beneath the Tower: Chapter 2

There is no Balance without Devotion, no Harmony without Chaos, and no Victory without Sacrifice

(Background music, helps make it more fun to read.)
Not many knew that the brothers had done more than just disappear. They had not abandoned their town simply because they no longer believed in it. They were called to... Voices in there heads pulled both brothers across the land torturing them and twisting them. Taunting them with long unheard languages of beings far beyond their comprehension. In time however, the brothers not only learned to cope with the voice, but discover their meanings. When they returned they were not only stronger but more sure than ever about their goals.
yggdrasill__hrolf_kraki_by_cyrilt-d8qful7.jpg

With the words of the gods behind them they knew that not only was Auru in need of their guidance, but it was destined for greatness. And so upon their return, they set to work immediately. Auru was to be transformed from the ground up into a city unlike any other. With the mighty Aurulian Wall finished, work began on shaping the land itself to fit

New citizens began to come to the city. Not only were they beginning to return, but they were returning in waves faster than anyone had ever seen. Auru was growing, but not like before. This time they were growing fast. Within months the city had already grown past its former size with buildings popping up as if overnight.
viking_harbor_by_alexson1-d80cjdh.jpg

And so Auru grew, larger than it ever had before. Behind its mighty walls Auru was free to grow as they pleased. The world around them had changed considerably however and when it finally became time for the brothers to to venture forth, they found a much more foreign world around them. Their old friends, gone along with entire towns. You see, Auru despite its past was the luckiest of towns. No other town in Kalros had survived the catastrophes that followed Hilo's betrayal of the Vanhameir.

Auru found itself alone in the North living under the shadow of Hilo. Having grown strong and rich after the betrayal, Hilo constantly attacked any town they pleased and enforced embargoes on important resources. Located underground they had always been safe from raiders and found their town easy to defend. With once noble intentions, Hilo had become completely engulfed in its own corruption. They burned the land around them down simply to rule over the ashes. And despite its growth, Auru was no match for such a giant.
underground_city_by_ponponxu.jpg

(I know its a modern city. If you've been to Hilo, it makes sense.)

In time, Auru began to look beyond the Northern lands of Kalros, and it was here they finally found friends. In the Western lands of Ascalon they met the leaders of Sudkuste and New Ibbish, among others. Under the reign of their own tyrant, Eldritch, they were just as eager to make new friends. The strongest among these towns, New Ibbish, was a massive city built in the middle of a lake. The Aurulian emissaries marveled at the cities architecture.
Z2o2BDG.jpg

(New Ibbish)

In the South they too found friends. In the wake of the collapse of the Ellesium alliance, many new towns had come to populate Garama. Despite no ruling power on the continent they experienced frequent raids from the towns of Eldritch and Hilo. Eager to make friends as those in Ascalon, Auru was again no longer alone in the vast world. Auru would trade with its new found allies ignoring the sleeping giant just across the lake. Just as in New Ibbish the Aurulians that traveled to the South found the Architecture of cities like Fang Creek fascinating in their uniqueness.
shanty_town_by_jbrown67-d5ffqia.jpg

(Fang creek)

(Change to this song)

Eventually the day came when a courier delivered a message to the Aurulians of a secret meeting to be held in Sudkuste. They would be meeting with the leaders of many towns to form a new alliance. One to vanish the enemies they all shared. It was time to fight the corruption that held onto the land. It was at this meeting that the Lokan Intercontinental Alliance was established. Made up of 3 separate continental branches, they would work together to fight the towns of Hilo and Eldritch. In the West, Zephyros, in the South, Oas Sfaren, and in the North, The Valderkal. Each branch would work together to fight the oppressive capitals of Hilo and Eldritch.
Council_of_Consuls_2560x1444.jpg

(Yes, we have a f**ing dragon)

You know of Hilo and their deeds but what of Eldritch? The Church of Eldritch was a group of religious fanatics trained from the youngest of ages to fight. Hardly industrious, barely working, they leeched off the West, raiding and stealing what they needed from the towns of Ascalon. They ruled the land with an iron fist, crushing all that opposed them. Perhaps it was their similar ideals or just common interest that brought Hilo and Eldritch into alliance together, but as a result, they were unstoppable.
fantasy_army_of_darkness_rain_hd-wallpaper-377209.jpg

(I know I portray Eldritch as bad guys but lets recognize just how cool these warriors look.)

And so the Lokan Intercontinental Alliance vowed to bring a stop to their reign and once again free the land to grow and prosper. The alliance was to remain a secret however until they had worked up the supplies to go to war. As the nearly 15 towns bound by the alliance slowly crafted the weapons of war, they set in motion a plan to begin the fight for control of the known world. It was to take place in the evening and a strike would be carried out against Hilo in the North.

And then, it happened. Days before the strike was to be carried out Hilo struck. In what would come to be known as the Battle of South Gate, Hilo assaulted the Southern gate of Auru with a large force consisting of Hiloan soldiers as well as the fanatics of Eldritch. The largest and longest battle of known history took place that day. And when the smoke cleared, Auru and its allies had been defeated by the combined might of Hilo and Eldritch. they burned everything south of the wall and Auru was forced back behind the wall.

After such a crushing defeat the alliance seemed on the brink of collapse.. After a long time a second meeting was called and only half the towns of before managed to make it to Sudkuste. You see, Eldritch and Hilo did not take kindly to such a resistance. As punishment they burned many towns to the ground, raiding and pillaging till nothing remained. Auru yet remained safe behind its wall but the siege had begun. Hilo had surrounded laid siege to the city for months.
wallhaven-255470.jpg

(Yes, this is a picture of an orc siege. Hilo and Eldritch are orcs,)

With their allies shattered and unable to leave their own city, the Aurulians began to lose hope. Not only had they been beaten but their leadership had begun to crumble. Grubul, shortly before the Battle of South Gate had disappeared. Vanishing into the night without a trace he was gone. Ajaxan, crushed by the loss of his brother began to falter. It was on that fateful night that the dreams returned to Ajaxan. A prophecy he had written down long ago visited him in his dreams. The Prophecy of Snow was upon them.
995LiQh.png

Under the cover of darkness messengers were sent across the land to bring back together old friends for a final attempt against their enemies. And this time, there was no stopping them.

In a single night their combined forces merged to form an unstoppable wave that would not only break the siege of Auru but wipe nearly all of Hilo from the land. Within a single day Hilo was on its knees calling for help from Eldritch. Once help had finally arrived however, it was too late. The fanatics at Eldritch may have been able to stem the bleeding but the damage had been done. Hilo was crippled. Although they had failed to overthrow them completely a new battle had begun. Auru now looks to the future as they watch the mountain upon which their foes sit, crumble.

Day 1 of Writing:
  • Uhh crap, what they heck happened in the past few months? Meh, I'll do it tomorrow...
Day 2 of Writing:
  • Alrighty, lets do this! Lets choose some music first so we have something to listen to. *3 hours later* Woah, its 5:00am...
Day 3 of Writing:
  • So lets just start writing and see what happens...
  • Things actually happened today! Finished all the writing, gonna have to check that spelling at some point.. Those that know me know I type like an idiot.
Day 4 of Writing:
  • Okay, fine, its still day three. Its just so late its technically tomorrow.
  • Added music. Just like before the music that i would end up using ended up playing and I instantly knew it was the right song.
  • Finding pictures for this one was slightly easier. If you're curious where I got the pictures for Fang Creek and New Ibbish check out their lore threads! New Ibbish | Fang Creek
  • Checked spelling...Yikes

Really great work! I love seeing actual battles/events that happened on Loka (or I imagine happened, some of these must have been before my time) turned into lasting lore. It's easily become one of my favorite things about this server

However, even during the time, he was correct, after those attacks, Hilo had ~10-12 tgens left, more than all of their alliance had at the end of the day, seeing as how they deleted all of them, also, Hilo and Eldritch remained capitals despite the 20 attacks when we were sleeping or working, though I must say in compliments to Ajaxan, despite the augmented finishing, it is excellent writing.

I totally understand you're guys complaints. I originally wrote the Midnight Raids as a pure defeat but it fit awkwardly into the story and so I wrote about the fact that we did do a bunch of damage despite not really winning. Because its still Minecraft a few liberties have to be taken to avoid having the story just sound dumb.
