What is this suggestion?
This suggestion is pretty simple, it's only needed by a minority group of people but it would be an extreme help nonetheless.
The suggestion is to add a command or item which shows the distance from the nearest border; the best alternative to this would be allowing players to see the particles through replacing the current effect with anything with spectral.
Why is this needed?
When making any town underground it's priority for the town to be safe and not easily accessible/raidable usually. This is particularly hard to do with if it's impossible to see where town borders to be until you dig into them.
The best method to raid a town is via chorus fruit which can be used at a towns borders, which is common knowledge. This can be used with ease to gain access into underground towns if the walls are close to the borders. It's incredibly hard to gain a good understanding of the town borders if underground due to the fact the feather particles are only visible if blocks are not obstructing line of sight, it's obvious how this could prove troublesome for players which may be unable to see this.
