The firestone is a powerful tool, but one that is difficult to get for new players. There's also no way of them naturally finding out about it, after all there's not much reason to venture deep into the dreadfort. This means that the only people who have access to it are probably supported by an experienced town or alliance.
My answer to this problem is clue books, a series of three books containing riddles which would help people find and combine the firestone pieces. They could be found in loot bundles in the nether and/or ruins.
While on the subject of the dreadfort, I'd like to mention a few smaller ideas I had.
- mobs don't respawn in rooms you've already cleared, so you can have a safe space to return to if you want to regenerate health.
- there's a way to warp back to spawn when you have all three peices. This isn't too gamechanging since you can log out and warp to spawn that way.
- A loot bundle spawns in a room when a player who's never been into the fort kills all the mobs in that room.
However I think most of this stuff should be saved for the nether update, since there's a lot more content which could be added alongside this.
