Suggestion Duel Map Changes?

So I checked forums a bit late and didn't get a chance to respond to Casper's post or yours Mag.


"This is basically a rehash of a post made a few months ago, gonna lock it for that reason. The responses are far worse than before, if you can't be bothered to explain your issues and points of view properly we sure as hell aren't going to put the effort into building and creating new arenas.

If Duels get used a lot, we will put more of our time into developing it. We will listen to feedback on what players like and dislike about PvP maps, we may not agree with them all (we don't like perfectly flat maps) but will likely find a good compromise. In order for that to happen though you have to be able to articulate your specific views (likes/dislikes)."
In Casper's recent post about duel maps Mag you responded with this ^. Now I agree with Casper that the stupid spruce log map should be removed, but I also think the other maps need to be redone or more maps added. Below I will list multiple issues with most if not all of the maps.

1. High Grass (People hide in them and it's horrible)
2.The Bridges or the glass panes on them (They mess up critting)
3. The decoration blocks (messes up potting)
4. Pieces of the map in the way (Lava map big thing in middle)
5. Slabs (Again potting + strafing messed up)
6. Basically anywhere that goes up in elevation on a map sucks.

If you guys have any other issues with maps just put them in your response.

In response to your second point, that is completely untrue and PvP has been peaking on the server for months now. Duels have been used and so has PG. Until now there was no reason to do ranked duels because Elo + perks were frozen and there was no hype on an upcoming season. Now with Crypts announcement of the next season close by + elo unfrozen people have started doing ranked duels again.

idk I quite like the maps, it simulates an ACTUAL Loka combat experience to an extent. However I could see there being some tweaks to make it easier to PvP, but I don't think we need to remove all of it.

We're likely to reach a sort of middle ground, culling some obstacles here and there while retaining some visual interest and aesthetic. What we (probably) will never do is ultimately give you a 100% clean flatmap for ranked matches (which seems to be the only thing the vocal bunch ultimately wants). I could perhaps see one of those for unranked duels (provided we add a map picker).

In our view on Ranked PvP, terrain does matter. The best PvPers in Minecraft should be able to triumph even in the face of "a bump or an obstacle". I understand constantly fighting on hills can suck (and can see why the log map is the least favorite), but the volcano map has plenty of flat space. That it has "a thing that sticks out in the middle" is not so egregious as to warrant removing it or the map. Seems dramatic.

In unrelated cool news, there were nearly over 2000 matches played in just over the first 24h or so that we opened ranked testing, so that's promising!

At no point did I say they were not, I was making a general point that our development time is limited and we have to be smart with how we use it. If a feature, like duels, is heavily used over a significant period of time we will likely invest more time into it.

This is constructive and useful feedback which we appreciate. This coupled with feedback I have received through dm's gives us something to go off and at the very least we will make tweaks to existing maps to make them more PvP friendly. We may not agree 100% with everything and players do have different preferences, however, there is a good chunk that the majority of people would get behind.

+1 i agree on all of them its very annoying
