Suggestion Fish trading merchant

Hello me again,

I had a great brainwave...
I had the idea to add a fish merchant that trades fish for shards.

Why:
Fishing is at this moment not the most usefull thing to do. As food it is bad, the only 2 reasons you would fish is the fish quest at Frodii or you want to fish up some mending books.
So fishing isnt quite the meta atm and pretty useless...
By trading fish for shards fishing might become usefull for grinding small amounts of shard for begininng people/towns.

Other notices:
Fish will be more worth if it isnt stacked EX :1 fish is 4 shards worth but if its stacked only 2 shards.
Any other people can add lore to it if they want to but im just here for the pure mechanics.

Example trading schema:
Fish type:Normal fish:Stacked fish:
Cod52
Salamon105
Pufferfish2010
Tropical fish25Idk if a Tropical fish has a weight

And with this being said, i think i am finished.

I don't understand why we should punish the player and make the system inefficient with stacked fish. Players are just gonna go through & unstack fish. Which is a drain on them mentally & physically.

Also what's the point of Tropical fish being 5x time the value of Cod? Players will just fish at Garama Docks. I would instead think it would be better to switch off the prices. For example, if Cod is being sold at 5 stacks an hour, while Puffers are being sold at 2 stacks an hour, why not let th game artificially increase the price of Puffers and lower the price of Cod. Basically supply & demand, the NPC will value fish that it isn't really getting.

Tropical Fish has a low chance of being fished up

Each fish has the same chance of being fished up in their continent but you have to remember this is a suggestion doesn't mean it's gonna get added, if it's gonna get added the prices will be balanced

I know it's a suggestion, just pointing out stuff on why I don't think it will be a good idea.

By stacked fish he means fish without a poundage attached to them. I think how it should work is have the unstacked still lored fish worth more, then the stacked boyos worth less.

Maybe a fish trading system where you get points to redeem other items? :thonk:
You're describing an arcade but the only game is fishing.

Edit: Yeah what foxy said. Typically your stacked fish is anything under 100 lbs because they're just not that noteworthy.

Currently there is basically no reason to think about fish that aren't in your top ten weights.

I've had quite a lot of thinking when it comes to how useful fishing is in Loka, and to the Loka Economy. Here is how I see it currently.

Fishing is a gateway to unique, rare, but not particularly too useful items such as:
Mending Books which are a rare treat you can get from fishing, but are not particularly that useful, as they are undermined by Ancient Ingots.
Fishing up Guardians, as a unique way to get a small amount of prismarine shards and such for prismarine blocks. They are not particularly a more practically useful block than other blocks, but if they are what you fancy visually, then it is a way to obtain them.
Curse books, such as Curse of Vanishing and Curse of Binding are also exclusive to Fishing. They are not useful in the traditional sense (though there are some niche uses), they are mainly for having fun, messing around by getting armour stuck to someone or a pumpkin head, or just using them to have glowy mob heads or compasses.
Pufferfish can be caught through fishing, and used for Water Breathing Potions. these too are undermined by Respiration III on helmets. It's not too likely someone would need it, but it is still something you can get.
Fish, well, you don't have to cook or eat them. If you do cook them, they are more of a casual expendable food source, whereas beef and golden carrots are more practical in PvP. Uncooked, you can use them for taming cats, which are mostly for show, but can keep creepers and phantoms away. Furthermore, keeping big weighted fish are more for show and personal accomplishment than for practical use.

Though it would be nice to have a little reward from fishing, say one core per stack of fish at max, it should not be efficient if there were a way to turn a profit from it.

Fishing, preferably, should stick to these rules of having fun unique things tied to it in the sense of showing off, but not entirely the most useful things, as fishing is more of a hobby than a skill or a grind, imo.

P.S. There are plenty of ways for early players to easily get shards and grind, and plenty of other categories of game-play to consider tying rewards to.

With stacked i mean that the fish data is destroyed, if you destroy the data you have more space but the item is less worth

But other then a few exclusive (not usefull(except mending)) items fish are basically worthless as it isnt a good food type (just get some beef or bread)..
