Friendship Forged in Frost

I pulled an Ajaxan and decided to write some RP at midnight before a big test. My writing is put to shame compared to the recent works of Ajax and Laz, but oh well.

~

Jedoi awoke, and almost instantly threw up. She tried to recall the night before, how she and Lazuli and Johnny were laughing and drinking when Leasaur joined them. She remembered she and Laz started arguing and then…. She woke up.

She got out of bed and maneuvered her way out of the Inn. She searched a few moments for Lazuli, soon finding Johnny instead.

“Where is Laz?” She asked, approaching him.

He gave her a shadowed look as he replied, “I have no idea.”

“You don’t know? Maybe Lea knows?” She tried, glancing around for the elf. Johnny shook his head.

“I can’t find her either.”

“Do you think they left together?”

Johnny didn’t have a response for that. Jedoi took a deep breath and turned to the town portal.

“Maybe they’re in Aladra. I’ll go look for them.”

The woman still felt sick and slightly dizzy from the night before, but a worry too intense took hold of her. Most of those she loved long ago were gone. Her sister, her brother, her mentor, her love. She would not lose Lazuli and Leasaur as well. She knew they were probably fine, there were plenty of reasons for them to be absent for a day or two, but she couldn’t shake the feeling…

Arriving at Aladra, she was dismayed to find it so busy. She quickly realized that the town had been expanded, and many new buildings and improved roads lined the coast. She hurriedly began searching desperately for a glimpse of fiery orange or pale blonde hair. She began toward the dock when she heard a voice…

“Jedoi!” She turned to find a finely dressed Lokan with a huge smile. Jedoi recognized him quickly, however that was not hard. She didn’t know may skeletons.

“Hello, Gab.” She replied, still anxiously looking around for her friends.

“Hey, how have you been?” He asked, still smiling.

“Have you seen Lazuli or Leasaur?” She asked, ignoring his question. He must have noticed her worry as his demeanor changed and his smile vanished.

“No, why? Are they okay?” He asked, joining her in glancing around the docks.

“I hope so. Listen, I need to find them. Please tell me if you see them?” She pleaded.

“Okay, I will. Good luck, Jedoi.” He answered. She smiled at Gab thankfully and made her way to the boats. The North Star was preparing to leave. The woman was ready to look around the docks some more, but then…

Impulse grabbed her and she boarded the boat right as it was leaving. Maybe they went to Kalros. She thought, lying to herself. They love Kalros. I love Kalros.

Calm took her as soon as the North Star docked at the Kalros port. The crisp, fresh air seemed to clear her mind of worry. They’ll be fine. They’re both capable.

She took long strides as she marched through the forests. She had no idea where she was going, she could only think north, north, north. She wandered to the east, and wandered to the west, but always stayed north. When the sun set, she sheltered under the roots of trees, wishing all skeletons were as friendly as Gabrosen.

But day came; the sun crept over the horizon, spilling golden light into the thick forest. She continued her journey. North, north, north. Night came again, and then day, night, and day. Eventually she came across a long cobblestone road. She paused, and made the decision to follow it. She walked on the path for a few hours or so, travelling northwest, when she heard the sound of hoof on stone.

Her heart fluttered in her chest. The woman had too many memories of being murdered in cold blood in the wilds, just so that someone could take from her the few belongings she had. It had been awhile, but she could not forget what it felt like to die. To die, to linger in the dark moments between life and death, to live again.

In a panic, she flung herself off the road and scurried behind a tree. She tried to still her breathing as the hoof steps slowed and stopped.

“Jedoi?” A figure approached her side of the tree. Cloaked in the shadows of the trees, she could not make out his face, and so she screamed.

“Jedoi, Jedoi, it is okay.” He said quietly, taking her hands. “I am not going to hurt you.”

She stopped screaming. “Grubul?”

“Yes. Are you okay?” He asked, leading her out from behind the tree. In the light she could see him.

“Yes.” She muttered. Her vocal chords ached from using them so much after not speaking for so long.

“How long have you been out here?” He questioned, releasing her hands. They fell to her side.

“A few days, maybe? A week?” She replied, and he frowned.

“Would you like to come with me to Auru? It is very close.” He said, pointing up the cobblestone path. The woman hesitated, and then nodded. She approached his horse.

His horse was dead. This phenomenon had been occurring lately, horses of skeletal frame had begun appearing frequently. This particular horse was larger and taller than most of them, however, and Grubul had to help her onto the saddle. They rode northwest for a few minutes, chatting about why she had found herself wandering in the middle of Kalros. The horse was unbelievably fast, and so It only took a few minutes before they approached a tall stone brick wall.

They entered through the eastern gate, and Jedoi first glimpsed Auru. She drew a sharp intake of breath as her eyes scanned the scene. It looked as Dellsmite once had before they started building, with a mostly flat landscape and single tower rising from the earth. Dellsmite’s had been a small shack, however, and this was a full-fledged tower.

Grub led the horse, which Jedoi still sat upon, closer to the tower. They entered and he showed her around. “It’s very nice.” She said, once the tour was over. Her friend smiled.

“I am glad you like it. I love Auru.” He replied. Jedoi nodded absently, still taking in the view of the town. Grub began talking about his hopes and aspirations for the city, explaining in detail the future he envisioned. He then spoke about the other members of Auru, praising their talents and personalities. He switched to tell her about how they were a family, brothers who all called Auru home. They were both silent for a moment, and then…

“Jedoi.” He said, turning to her. “You should join us.”

“Oh, um…” She murmured, “I live in Makosa and…”

“We would be honoured to have you, Jedoi. You are very great.” He smiled.

“You’re great too, you know.” She replied, smiling in return.

“We would welcome you. I know you would get along with the others, and you would be our sister…” He trailed off, but still looked at her expectantly.

As of late, she had been comparing friends to mountains. There were a set amount and you did not lose or gain any. There were always there. But perhaps… Perhaps they were more like flowers. So many more potential friends existed, and making new friends was not a bad thing at all.

Jedoi turned to Grubul. “I would be honoured.”

I'm perfectly okay with this becoming what i'm known for.

But no seriously, this is fantastic Jedoi! One of the things you did with ease is explain some of the craziness that happens in Loka. Skeleton horses? Yeah that's a thing, it just happens.
