Getting to continents other than your own is limited by the bottleneck that is the aldara docks. It's easy to tell who's going where by just being at spawn, meaning that if you have enemies, getting ganked is a real threat. I would mention capital airships but nobody cares about them. So I thought about it a bit and came up with a few ideas about how intercontinental travel could be added in an interesting way.
The first idea begins with the dock, which would either be an industry or an alternative to a radar which could be placed in a territory. It would need water that's part of a ocean or river biome to be placed, and possibly could be levelled up with more spaces for boats. Interacting with the dock npc would bring up a list of friendly towns to travel to. (they would all need a dock). An arriving boat would send a ping out to all the town or alliance members and after a few seconds the boat would appear in the dock. Maybe this idea is too OP but I think that if there was to be intercontinental travel it should involve some effort from the town using it to make and maintain.
My other idea was just more docks, similar to the continent ones, but not going to spawn. Instead of taking up a full territory and getting in the way of conquest, these would be actual territories that could be taken, and when someone uses the boats, the alliance who owns the territory would be pinged. However I think there should be a cost, so similar to a radar's protecters, there could be 'dock guards' of some sort which attack you if you come to close. You'd need to defeat them to get onto the boat. Maybe instead there could be a fee or quest to complete. Something like this brings up the possibility of new aquatic content as well.
Either way, I like the idea of shipwrecks being a thing, so as long as there's a way for ships to sink, I'm happy.
