Invasions

So I'll be diving into a bit of speculation about how things will and won't be working for invasions while fortresses are no implemented, so forgive me if I end up quoting word for word what the plan already was.

So right now, the way I understand it is towns(or alliances) with the most territory will have the option to attack other continents. Which for some is exciting, for others, it sucks, but either way, most people will agree their need to be some significant checks and balances on invasions. Otherwise one town ends up in control of the entire map.

I know multiple ideas have been discussed, things like longer cooldown timers on beacons for attackers, or stronger defenses for defenders. Although these are good (again assuming something like this was the original plan) they mean very little if no one is there to fight back or one side is very much overpowered.

I guess stopping a super powerful town invading is inevitable if they really want to. That said, I believe a large trade off needs to be implemented for invasion style attacks. That trade off would be their daily attacks. Right now each town gets 5 daily attacks (not technically daily, but you get the idea) they can use on their own continent. If a town wishes to invade another continent however, they must use two of their daily attacks. In this way, invasions are slow, and they must be done deliberately and with knowledge that their continent is rightfully under control. Part of the point is to discourage people from invading until they actually need to go abroad to find battles, and this is a good way to do so. This system would limit invaders to two attacks per day with one daily attack left over to use on their own continent.

So for example if the Valderkal invaded Garama because we got tired of how annoying Cash was, we would only be able to attack twice there resulting in us using up 4 of our daily attacks. We could then place an inhib on Hilo to use of our last attack of the day.

I know many of you are ready to let me have it in the comments for some reason or another, but realize this idea is meant to help stop one town from taking over everything. I know some of you are looking forward to a town doing this but a majority of the server is not, and new players certainly aren't. So no matter how much fun you would have owning everything, realize you share this world with many others and many new players on their way. Also, if you are worried about the loss of ability to gain conquest points, check my world capitals post. I addressed the issue because I too think its unfair to prevent a town getting world capital just because they've already conquered their continent.

PS: If anyone wants to use a real world comparison to help put this in perspective. Foreign invasions of water always happen much slower because moving people and resources for war across oceans is very very tough. This inability to fight a war an ocean away is a large part of why North America and South America exist as they do today.

I like the idea of this, although I am not 100% how fortresses will be placed, and how it'll affect the continent together, such as, if attacking a fortress deducts points from everyone on that continent if they lose, etc. But from what I see, it makes sense, to allow for ALL people to get to enjoy their fair share of our unique territory system.

Fortresses will change things. But not too much. They will basically change the requirement for invading. You have to control the fortress to invade (from what I understand).
