Part of some of my efforts of late have been to figure out how to optimize the server so that it can run smoother when we have more and more players on. One of these new features that I've just added is the ability to adjust mobs that spawn from grinders and take their brains out.
Part of what makes mob grinders so laggy is that all of the mobs are stuck in a 1x1 space, but they're still trying to find a way out. All of that effort lags the server. Removing their brains means the mobs effectively sit and do nothing other than swim up, meaning grinders still work just fine. Removing the desire for monsters to try to get out of their space will reduce some server load.
The reason for this post is a call out to all of you with (completed) mob grinders. I select by hand the spawners that will spawn dumb monsters; this is not a global change. Building grinders is still fraught with peril and I have no intention of nerfing all spawner mobs because that would remove the element of danger that building grinders and stumbling upon spawners gives.
If, however, your grinder is completed, then it is subject for 'dumb monsters'. I ask that you please /mail me in game and tell me where your grinders are so that I can convert them into dumb spawners. This helps everybody! You'll probably get an in-game notification or I'll just hit you up.
