Loka: A History

I have been thinking about doing something like what I am about to explain for a little while.
Essentially, I want to make a "book" that details the history of every group of people that have played here since the very beginning, and the many events that have taken place, too. It's not really a history of the server itself, like things happening behind the scenes and forum posts and stuff like that, and it's not really a bunch of entries on the wiki either.

I guess it would be similar to the structure of a history textbook, just less boring, and with more interesting content. I would like to include as many details (and dates) as possible about these groups, events, towns, relations, etc., and I would like to also keep it as close to unbiased as possible.
In order to accomplish such a task, I ask everyone who currently plays or used to play on this server, regardless of how long you have played, to write to me about everything you know or have experienced here. Include as much detail as you can remember, and write about anything you know about that has taken place on Loka. You can discuss things you were not directly a part of, but firsthand experience is most desired for this type of project.

If you wish to help me with this project, please send me a message on the forums with anything you know. I really appreciate anyone who can help with this. As a side note, anyone who sends me information will be appropriately credited in this.

This sounds like an amazing project. I was pretty much a newb when I joined Loka, and I have become so invested with it. In terms of writing, do you want it from the perspective of role play ( not exactly lore per say but from a character's perspective confined to the server) or from a player's perspective to include things such as what drew them to the server and such.

I think I know too much to sum it all up, so I'm probably more useful if just directly asked questions. If you got in touch with Artagan as well, of course, he'd probably be one of your greatest sources of knowledge.

I think you should do it on Magpieman perspective, after all he is the oldest player :3

On this vein of thinking, I believe that in game book writing would be a fun thing to encourage players to do. There is nothing quite as cool as finding some old book in a forgotten chest in an abandoned city. So two proposals:

1) Make books able to be copied. Simple plugin that would allow you to copy a written book if you have an extra book and pen available. Perhaps this could even be an industry?

2) Give players easier access to books. It sounds dumb but bare with me. If I log onto a server and I happen to have a book I cna write in already in my inventory. I am almost certainly going to write in it. If I have to go through the trouble of getting everything together myself, well its much less likely you'll see me writing any stories. so by easier access, you can either just give players a free book a day (or however often you think necessary) or make them much easier to craft.

Well we did have a spawn library in the old world with a book plugin. Not sure if a library is in works or not yet. Could be another project for the build team.

Indeed, we have a lot of history stored away in our library books from old worlds; just need a new one to store new books in.

Well, I guess the perspective would be more of that of a role player. It's not really meant to be a biography or anything like that.
And this won't be a book in Minecraft. That would be a major pain, not to mention it would require a ton of books since each one only holds 50 pages. It's not really going to be made for a Minecraft book.

Someone could always translate it into a series of MC Books if they wanted to.

As Def said, the best way to write the history of Loka would be in a history book format. But more exciting writing and no pictures (if in-game). We could have multiple volumes, one a brief overview and one in great detail. Each world could have its own volume as well. It would be neat to have player biographies too, like admins and RP characters, maybe even players who had a huge impact on the server.

Well said.. Perhaps full biographies and such would be in a separate volume.

Just to make it clear, anyone can can send me any information they wish to me.
Also, I need a rough timeline to begin. Ideally I would start with the biggest events, and fill in the smaller events around them to get an idea of how the history fits together. So if anyone knows relative dates on any sort of event (not to be confused with role playing event), please let me know.

Yeah, I think I'll lay out my thought process for how I will write this, just to be clearer.

I will start off with a rough timeline with things like important events, wars, stuff like that.
I will then pull all the information I can gather together. This will come from various sources, such as the wiki, forums, in game books, and of course, any information people send me. This means you can send me really rough stuff, doesn't need to be formatted or written specially or anything. When I get all the information together, that's when I start formatting and writings things in a more formal way.

Screenshots could definitely be handy. Ill check the wiki if I need some, and anyone can send their own in.
I'm going to start the rough timeline very soon. I only joined around the ending of the war on the third world with Pallet and Central? City, so I'm not really sure where the history of Loka begins. If anyone knows of any major events between the beginning of Loka's history and the Third Age, go ahead and post some here, with relative dates.
