So I've been thinking about this recently: until the resource island opens up, ores seem particularly rare around Loka (or I'm just really bad at mining. Oh well, I digress.) I've also realized that Frodii, on the fish docks, will pay you 12 power shards for 8 raw fish. Perhaps, to help out newer players or players like me, who are bad at mining, make more NPCs around spawn who will accept relatively simple materials for relatively few power shards.
Someone gave me an example yesterday for a job which may or may not work: 16 enderpearls for 32-64 power shards. Obviously enderpearls are hard to come by for newer players, but who knows, perhaps it would be a nice incentive to receive some quick cash (especially if the market seems unreliable at some points).
The only downside I could see to this, is the almost instant inflation of the currency and, although yes that's really bad, it'd help getting some of the infinite materials other NPCs sell to make or repair equipment (such as the diamond sale for 18 power shards).
