Nether is a dangerous place....but nether travel is fast. I purpose a community project. I say we build a nether horse path with a cart minecart rail option but only to towns interested.

Rail probably isn't necessary with horse travel being a thing now, but I'm down for the whole path idea. I can help out anyone who wants to beautify it and of course help dig it. If people are asking "what happens if we don't have a horse" we could always toss our bad breeds down there for public use.

I am all in for the nether path system, and the rail too, again. I like minecarts as you can afk in one and not stop, just keep going until you get to your destination. Horses are faster but you need to pay attention and control where the horse is going. Both options should go into the path.

I've actually already started digging them at top bedrock, but if we want to start from scratch I guess we can do them at the bottom. Instead of doing it by town my plan was to have them at 1k intervals, and towns could branch off from there.

honstly idc about greifing and it would look nicer if it was on the surface of the nether.

All volunteers willing to suspend themselves above lava to build a rail likely to be seen and destroyed by griefers and also accumulate a large population of pigmen which are likely to be punched and made aggressive please raise your hand?

I may not've stated this very publicly before, but well-made community projects always have the potential to gain protection so as to thwart griefers.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm still for our old nether hub idea we had going back in the original Loka. We did at one point complete all the rails, but then a bunch of towns rose and fell and it became outdated. It was hidden just above bedrock in the nether so newbs never found it (maybe not so much an issue now).

I prefer rails over horse paths or a hybrid because:

  • The nether is not a very horse friendly place
  • Mine carts maintain more consistent speed, are faster than some horses, and can be used to transport items easily
  • The tunnel (if indeed we dig a tunnel) required for a rail is much smaller than the tunnel required for horses so fewer lava sources will be discovered. It's less of a liability.
  • While more costly as far as iron goes, it requires a fraction of the building blocks.
  • Paths are more easily created or adjusted to account for changes to the rail or the addition of new towns.
  • More convenient to use (chests of carts can be kept on site).

Although to be honest, I would prefer to dig a rail through the overworld and collect a chest or two of diamond blocks along the way. Digging the world rail on previous worlds is pretty much how I've made all my money.

I agree with MO, a surface path would look nice but at the same time I would rather a underground path as you would be safe to afk and not worry about ghosts or someone shooting you.

I had the idea too.

At becrock level, and going around like a web. Portals to overworld every 400 blocks? So we would have portalls all across the map.

It would be 3 wide and 3 high tunnels. Would require lots of picks, but coul be worth it. iv already started this underground from where i wanted to start. But would build all up to the spawn, and all around.

For spots that have protection over them, we would build a square around...

Reason why I want it on the surface of the nether because its suppose to be helpful to the community not to be available a select few. Also the overworld rail is fun to dig but it lacks the speed. We could do both but i'd like to have nether paths on top so we don't get too many ugly 1 wide walkways plaguing our nethers beauty.

The reason we hid it is because though some towns want to allow easier access to their towns, they don't want every new player wandering in. It's more of an inter-town thing.

here is the definition of this project

a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Hiding something isn't it that. That's why we need to stop being all hidden and such. Its part of the bigger good. I understand world rail on over-world hidden and maybe nether rails hidden but paths on the top surface would be best way to get the sense of community back into loka.

I think it should be hidden, and at the bedrock level.

new players not knowing what it is, seeing it would grief the rails/path, but only us, that share the knownologe with them would know about it.

And we would share it with anyone that plays the server for more than one day, and is going to stay.

That's quite a good idea. I second this.
