New Lands Await

After hearing plenty of stories of the great treasures found on the new islands just off the coasts of the three continents, the Aladrans get antsy, wanting to stake their own claims to the glorious riches. Captain Abel leads a small exploration crew deep into each island, digging up wealth, along with various raw materials that could further the Aladrans’ technology.

The first bit of this is finding new breeds of sheep on the Kalros Island: their wool is a bit more compact and can stretch a bit better, making for more efficient and stronger sails of the ships. Next, some new trees on the Ascalon Island prove useful to making longer and more durable oars. Finally, a new gold/iron compound on the Garaman Island helps shipbuilders create better studs, allowing ships to cross over the turbulent seas, and further explore the world.

Again, with another exploration crew, Captain Abel sets out, with some of the strange medallions he finds from the natives on the resource islands, medallions said to bring him and his crew back from the brink of death to further their exploration, should something go awry. After weeks of sailing, and nearly all hope lost, they stumble across a chain of islands, astonished to find that there were already Territory Generators and Inhibitors spread across the lands.

Upon returning to Aladra, and telling the tales of their discovery, the Aladrans quickly realized that they'd need a new port to send ships back and forth from the newly marked landmasses. Between the three ships headed to the continents, and Frodii's Dinghy, the current dock was a bit crowded. During construction of the new port, however, word of the islands and their potential for Conquest gets around to the other Lokans, mostly through word of mouth. Under the supervision of Cryptite and Magnus, the new port gets ready for war, and becomes what we know as the War District.

The Lokans look forward towards the new wars and exciting adventures that could come forth from a new region of the world, while others ponder the implications of further travel by sea.

Lore question that I thought of when you talked about the iron/gold compound from Garama, I know you were incorporating a material from every island and all that but what do you think the viability of using ancient ingots for building things would be when it comes to lore?

Admittedly, I don't know how Ancient Ingots work from a lore sense, but I do think that they have very specific qualities about them: first, what might you define as "Ancient"? To some, off hand, it might just make them seem really old...but old metal is typically very brittle in nature, especially if not kept in good conditions. However, if you've read up a bit on the server lore, you'll also know that there was an old race of basically gods that created technology like the Knives, the Artifact(s), and the Recall Stones. Remember that the Lokan people call these "gods" The Ancients as well. So is "Ancient" in Ancient ingots referring to their age, or to their origin?

Either way, all Ancient technology is relatively old, or so we think. Why would gods like The Ancients have any use watching over some pesky Lokans every waking moment? Nah, they're probably out there somewhere in the universe creating more cool stuff that we might eventually slice to, if this current world ever comes to an end. So it's more likely that this is left over Ancient stuff that we've happened to find. However, knowing the Ancients and the rest of their technology, these Ingots probably have some highly technological, or at least borderline magical properties themselves, to stay in good condition. I think the real question is, how the hell is Lenrith getting an unlimited supply of these ingots.

Realistically, I can't really see Ancient Ingots being used as a material all on their own. I feel like they're more for just mending tools and armors, rather than being their own thing. Take whetstones, for example: when a sword would get dull or rusted after long use, warriors would grind it down with a whetstone to keep the blade in good condition. However, you wouldn't see anyone using a whetstone as a weapon, would you? I think the same kind of concept can be applied to A/I's, that they're good for repairing equipment, or reinforcing armor, but by themselves are a terrible (or at least lack luster) material to use for weaponry.

Now, in the example of the ship studs, I honestly don't know. I think, especially from a lore "history/timeline" sense, it made much more sense to use a new compound found on the Resource Isle's rather than using Ancient Ingots to create new ship studs: think about it, the Aladrans have had access to A/I's for Centuries underneath the Artifact; now, that's not to say they haven't experimented with them before, but clearly they had no practical use with ships, otherwise we would've gotten past the turbulent seas already! However, although the Resource Islands have been around for awhile now, the Aladrans might not only have started adventuring them until recently. Again, it's more likely that a new compound was used to make a strong material for these ships, than the Ancient Ingots which are probably useless on their own.

I assumed as such in all honesty but I do find the ancient ingots (and all special server items) to be fascinating from a functionality and lore standpoint. I'm honestly always trying to think of new ways that we could use things or mix things from a lore stand point like my current interest in collecting many recall stones to possibly power a personal Knife of sort (even though functionally it won't do anything but from a lore stand point maybe ;D haha)
