resource island is hard as heck for new players. the vex are just to much for starting gear.

Use your bow. If you can't aim well enough yet, do it anyway. You won't lose your gear since it's keep on death, so just keep trying. Persistence is the key to starting Loka. If you don't have that, you probably won't succeed.
