Origins of the Server?

Would anyone happen to know anything about how this server began? Like the day it started, who started it, why it was started, original purpose, original players, etc.

All I think I know is that the server was started in February 2010 by Asymptonic, but I could be very wrong on that too.

Febuary 14 or 15, 2011, I believe. Asymptonic started it. Ofc Mop, Gall, and Mag were super old players. Also DiabolicalMech but I don't think anyone has seen him in a long time.

As far as random facts go, I've heard that the Artifact is made of glowstone because in that version, the nether wasn't avaible on multiplayer so it was super cool for new players to see glowstone on multiplayer. You should definitely talk to Mop/Gall/Mag.

As far as original purpose and who started, asymptonic started it of course, but if I remember correctly it was almost a sort of social experiment. The intent was to be, basically, an anarchy server with only extremely light lore and basically the players would fill in literally everything else.

...

Then I happened.

Nether was always available, the server began around the date jedi mentioned when minecraft was in beta 1.2. The artifact was always seen as a kind of beacon, which is why there was glowstone in it (it also signalled that it was on/active)

This was the original post http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum...rvers/999012-the-artifact-a-pvp-mystery-world That little story was on signs at spawn and protection was very small, didn't even cover the whole mountain. Spawn was nestled high in the mountains but not at the peak (that was where the artifact was).

If you have specific questions please feel free to ask. It is difficult to cover everything since so much happened on the first map let alone the 5 and a half years we have been going.

Thanks guys, this should be pretty helpful. The original Loka post by Asymptonic is really interesting.

I'll definitely ask some more specific questions when they come up during my writing, Mag. I appreciate the info you've already given me, between this and the Loka history google doc you gave me a while ago.

I'm trying to get some dates and events down for the generations here.
Please help me fill in the gaps.
One question: How many worlds are there? Is "Gaia's Cradle" a separate world? We had:
1. The original artifact world.
2. The original Loka world
3. The short world
4. The previous world
5. The current custom world

Generation 1
Start: Beginning of "The Artifact" Server (Feb 16 2011)

Generation 2:
Start: Creation of Gaia's Cradle (Date: ???)

Generation 3:
Start: Beginning of "Loka" Server (Date: ???)

Generation 4:
Start: Battle of the Spire (Sep 2 2012)

Generation 5:
Start: Not sure. Is the start of Gen 5 during the really short world or the world right after? (Date: ???)

Generation 6:
Start: Just going to assume the beginning of 6 is the start of the custom world. (September 2015 something???)

Real-Life Dates

The World of the Three Sisters, (and the server,) began on February 14th, 2011. It ended on September 26th, 2011.

The Second World began on September 26th, 2011, and ended on July 14th, 2013.

The Third World began July 14th, 2013, and ended December 7th, 2013.

The Fourth World began on December 7th, 2013, and ended on September 19, 2015.

The Fifth World began on September 19, 2015, through present day.

Generations are a way of classing when people joined the server, or when their character came to be on Loka. The first generation is the eldest, those who have joined near the very beginning. The youngest generation is the sixth, and as the current generation, its ranks are still expanding.

The First generation consists of players who have joined from the first day of the World of the Three Sisters to the founding of Hyrule.
(February 2011 - May 2011)

The Second generation’s boundaries are from the founding of Hyrule to the end of the First World.
(June 2011 - September 2011)

The Third generation began at the beginning of the Second World and grew until the Battle of the Spire.
(September 2011 - September 2012)

The Fourth Generation is made up of those who joined from the Battle of the Spire until the end of the Third World.
(September 2012 - December 2013)

Anyone who joined during the Fourth World is classed as Fifth Generation.
(December 2013 - December 2015)

The Sixth generation is still expanding, and anyone who has joined since the beginning of the Fifth World is Sixth Generation.
(September 2015 - Present)

5 worlds yeah. The eras are a little more subjective and some may need a little rework. For example Hyrule was founded in March 2011, 1 month after the server began. So second Gen probably should relate to how Towns formed on Loka during the first world as it became slightly more civilised. Since at the very start it was simply small bases and no protection. Perhaps Gaias cradle (the noob town on first world) or when the majority of players were part of towns rather than in solo bases would represent second gen better.

So do you have an idea to what event should mark the beginning of generation 2? Would the founding of Hyrule work ?
I think I said that Gaia's Cradle was the beginning of gen 2 on my rough list. Is that fine then? Any idea on the date for that?

Utilize the Wiki, Def. xD It's there to help you.
Where do you think I got the information? The wiki isn't always accurate and doesn't always have dates. My generations list is literally pulled from the wiki, right now I'm trying to verify and refine it.
