OK so I know I'm not an active member of this community any more, and you may be forgiven for telling me to bugger off and mind my own business BUT:

You guys have an election coming up that will affect me, the job market I want to go into, and the type of world that all of us live in for the foreseeable future. I can't personally take part in this vote (I ain't no American), so I just want to urge all of you that can to go ahead and register.

A certain referendum in my country, the UK, took place a couple of months ago and the voter turnout for young people was quite frankly embarrassing, and cost us the result that the youth universally wanted.

I'm not going to tell you which way to vote but I will ask that you register, turn up to the ballot boxes and put a tick in the box you believe in, because while it seems like your vote might not matter when there are so many other voters out there doing the same, it really does make a difference.

PS vote Democrat

I agree, everyone of age and ability this year needs to vote! It's going to be a very important election this year.

PS vote Republican

Who cares about this election... I don't like to get into politics. I fail to see how voting for either candidate at this point, honestly. Of course, you could vote third party. But I'm not particularly fond of Gary Johnson either. I would love to vote, since this is the first presidential election I can vote in. But man, it just seems garbage. I'm only 19 year old kid, I don't know everything or anything close to it, but I just don't think either of these candidates are good. I would feel guilty if one of my votes caused either one of them to be elected.

Honest question, how much damage could Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump actually do as President? I was under the impression that a lot of the things they would want to change would have to go throw Congress, which hasn't seemed to be very effective lately.

Do some research of your own before making a decision, but I would strongly encourage voting. Not voting is a statement in and of itself, I get that. However, if you do have the ability to choose a candidate, at least on your conscience you can say you voted. To not vote, which in many cases is voting for the other person means you are fine with the outcome. Many people, myself at times included, do not suffer the complaints of people who didn't vote when things turn ugly. You had your chance to excercise your freedom, you chose not to, you should now accept the result.

The reason for Adder's post in this specific context is because there are a great deal of people (more than the usual hooligans) who strongly believe that one of the two outcomes of this election would cause more harm to America and the world than has ever been possible in the past. Many see one outcome as potentially irreversibly bad for the future of the US and the world at large.

All else fails, between the two, vote for the one that doesn't scare you at the thought of having their finger on the Nukes :) As well, consider that one of them has a wealth of experience in this field (like her or not) and the other has none.

I agree domestic policy can seem hopeless at times, with real progress difficult to achieve due to congressional battles etc. Furthermore, the USA in particular seems to struggle to represent either any real choice between policies or a variety of viewpoints.

In this election however, more so than ever with an increasingly provocative USSR, troubles in the South China Sea and a devastating humanitarian disaster in Syria, we have to be genuinely concerned for world safety. Think of the red button at the very least.

Because we didn't already have enough to argue about on the server....

But no, seriously, everyone should vote. Democracy doesn't work well when no one votes.

Today's the day ("hurr durr really Adder I didn't know") so get out there and exercise your democratic duty y'all!
