Suggestion Road Systems

With the new map feature of level 10 towns appearing on it and the 1.9 dirt paths, I had an idea. These towns are rather prominent if they lasted long enough to appear on the map, so why not a road system? It would be really easy to make, all you would need is a paint tool and some bridge designs for places like the clay cliffs. I think it would help connect towns and provide physical aid to help travelers. You can fallow the beaten trial or go off into the woods. For those who don't know I am against underground railroads and horse tunnels connecting towns, and though paths aren't as fast, they can really add some nice features to the landscape. We could probably build npc villages and maybe even that railway system I suggested a while ago.

This is a great idea for the friendly towns that just want peace and prosperity! I would love to have some connection with some towns. It would be much easier to trade and traveling in general! Maybe you could put signs telling you what direction some towns are? That would be nice for "Forks in the road"! I would really like this :D

as long as players build the stuff themselves, this idea is cool connecting all the towns with roads and bridges, but i dont support making stuff easier with magical roads magically appearing.

Hey! I happen to love magical roads magically appearing! :3

What's wrong with a magic road? All these towns are already on the map, so it would be easy to find them anyway. They wouldn't make travel any faster on horseback, it would just be a path to fallow. I'd use em.

It's the whole concept of the community projects. Except nobody really wants to do them, they just inevitably want it done by admins/staff because it's faster.

But this isn't a community project. I want the admins/staff to do it because it's for lore, to make the continents more developed, not because they can do it faster. If it's player made they whole thing will look awful and be unorganized, completely ruining the whole point of adding to the look of the continents. Wouldn't it be cool to have NPC villages with new quests? This is something that the staff should do because they have final say in where the path of lore goes, they should make it.

What if towns don't want to be connected by a road network? Who are we to force a road up to a town if they don't want it? To be honest, this sounds like a great community project idea to me.

If the intent is for the roads to actually be for NPC villages with quests, then we have a bigger issue, and that is, of course, the amount of work it takes to make quests, a task on which we are severely understaffed. Additionally, there are concerns on how Quest hubs work in the continents when towns can effectively claim territory around them. All of these things together sort of explain why our future "questing" areas will most likely be off-continent; be it protected islands, new worlds, etc. We can ensure quest content doesn't interfere with (and likewise won't be messed with by) regular towns, Conquest activities, players who might want to camp people trying to do quests, etc.

If it's not for NPC villages per se and is just to connect towns, that's the kind of activity that we purposefully leave up to towns themselves. If you just don't trust anybody to make anything that looks good; that's really shouldn't be our job to fix...

FWIW I agree with you on your initial point wholeheartedly, but tl;dr it's not really the best use of our time to create this road network ourselves when we could instead be working on future features, quests, etc for the server as a whole.

Although its true "real" roads would have to be made by towns and cities capable of expending the resources necessary to do large scale construction we are talking about dirt paths. Paths and dirt roads are little more than well traveled paths. Even hostile towns and cities would have people moving between them for various reasons whether is be trade, diplomacy, war.

Perhaps instead of a "Road system" work on a system that allows players to create well worn path simply by walking through the same area frequently. The speed boost provided would be minimal at best but it would be bother interesting and useful to see roads start to form from player travel.

What If you are able to make this into a capital perk? That would be fair right? Just like the spruce embargo people are forced upon it if the capital chooses the embargo perk...

How about the roads lead to the biomes instead of towns. That would help new players navigate the map better if that had physical landmarks in game to relate to their location in the map.

My favorite part of the new map was exploring the continents to find each biome. Making roads to them would take away the fun of exploring IMO.

if either admin made roads or admin made railways to super fast travel land would happen, it would take out all the fun of tgen fights, cause almost anyone, no matter from what continent, could get everywhere super fast., exploring would become boring, and no more getting lost and even the npc towns could be captured with a town being built over them.

But the idea of a grass block being walked over becoming a path block is epic!
