Suffocation in Walls

Samwise

New Member
I've noticed this happening to people a lot lately, and it's just happened to me. I was standing at my zombie grinder, waiting for it to fill up and I went afk for roughly five minutes. When I came back, I was dead, and the chat said I'd suffocated in a wall. I can't see how that was possible, unless someone dropped gravel or sand on me, which couldn't have happened since I was the only person in my town. When I returned to the grinder, all my items were gone, even though no one else had been in the chunk with me. Is it possible for me to get my items back?

Edit: I've been informed that my dead body apparently kept the chunk active? Didn't know that happened, but it makes sense.

I'm gonna assume that no one from your town was on. Only thing I can think of, is that a vanished admin tp'd to you. It's happened to me a couple of times. Maybe, try to remember who was online at the time?

Crypt and Jocelyn were online but no one from town was on or Gall could have jumped to her. It sucks because she had a lot of enchanted gear/tools on her when this happened. Do we have any idea what could cause this? I thought people were respawning in walls like I've seen before. Or maybe in a bad with blocks over them too low. This kind of throws me though.

90% of the time this happens it's an admin tping to you. You can teleport to a corpse that hasn't respawned yet though, so it should've been possible for someone to grab your items.

Well, Jocelyn explained to me that by not respawning, my body was keeping the chunk active, which allowed my items to despawn. I'm sure if she'd been there and picked my items up, she'd have told me.

Most definitely. She probably just wasn't aware that anything happened or that she could teleport to a corpse.

hey hey I knew you could teleport to a corpse, but I don't remember her dying. Wasn't paying attention to Loka at that time.
I wasn't anywhere near her when she died either. but if she didn't respawn after she had died...then her corpse would have been what caused her items to despawn.

Half the time I am on minecraft...I am talking on skype...surfing imgur...reading emails...looking crap up...writing reports
thats why I sometimes miss if someone is talking to me or just random stuff that happens.

I didn't know your dead body could keep the chunk active. I had to walk away for the same amount of time before and was killed by a zombie in our mines. Everything was still there when I came back and respawned though, luckily.

In any case, it's all good. I just wondered if we knew what causes this. It makes me wary to ever afk if needed.

If you're concerned about this happening in the future I'd suggest putting a hopper and a double chest under where you afk so if you die your items will be deposited.
