The Story as it Stands

I said I was very interested in lore for Loka. Unfortunately, arriving 2-3 years after everything started means that I need to catch up so this is my attempt to figure out where we are and how each player fits into the world. First I start out with a very brief overview of how I've understood the Lore so far and then I'll attempt to see how all the players new and old fit into it.

"There have been multiple worlds inhabited by the Slicers. through a series of events (not quite sure what they are) they slicers "sliced" their way into a new world. They tried settling in each place but as time went on they were forced to slice into even more dimensions over time. Our current world is another world the Slicers have stumbled in to. Will it be the last? Perhaps, but perhaps not. Only time will tell the tale."

How accurate would this be rated on a scale of 1-10? Feel free to fill in the gaps with as many details or correct anything I got wrong. also, what is the timeline of this story? As time moves fast in Minecraft I'd assume time also moves faster in the worlds of Loka.

And now for my understanding of each players role and how they fit into things.

"Each player is a slicer. Every player is simply another slicer following the others to this new world with promises of a better life."

Again, how accurate is this? I'd love as much feedback as I can get! :D

Slicers are the original term for a group of people with the technology to use what are called Knives (hence, Slicer). Knives are powerful devices/structures able to teleport to other locations, worlds, and it's been rumored, even other times.

asymptonic
, the original Slicer and original server owner (and in IRL, my brother) is almost a mythological figure at this point. His travels have spawned many tales and his being lost spawned one of the first search parties for he and his colleagues (Preksak being one of them)

In the first world where an Artifact was encountered, asymptonic and other Slicers were effectively blocked from travelling anywhere further and their memories were seemingly, but not consistently wiped. All of the players we have on Loka today were at one time Slicers, but have since lost their ability to do so because of the Artifacts that each successive world we've been on has had.

What they lost in their ability to transport across the galaxy they gained in immortality. Any world with an Artifact present has always been able to completely revive a dead player no matter how grave the injury.

The group of players on Loka today have all been effectively 'trapped' from going anywhere else. There are still Slicers out there in the galaxy moving about at will, but every so often, one comes to the world we're on, naked (so to speak) and often without any remembrance of their past. They then forge their destiny among the Lokans.

So each player is a Slicer, technically, but we have somewhat retconned the title as an honorary rank. Perhaps it's that we consider those who have contributed to the sever to represent their original likeness. That's why some people have the Rank and others do not. It's the first step into becoming leadership on Loka. The choice of that route, however, is up to the Slicer. Many are happy to remain as one for the rest of their days.

I love this. Very few servers ever attempt to explain the origin of their players. I find it to be one of the mos interesting part of the world. Back long ago when I ran a server I spent a large amount of time craft the lore of the world everyone inhabited.

The desolate world of Exiled was covered in Ice and snow. It was so cold simply being on the surface caused players to slowly freeze to death. And it was to this world criminals of the galaxy were exiled to. This was the description I used:

"Devoid of life, only a crazy person would venture out to this rock. A planet inhabited by the worlds outcasts. Instead of jail they choose to banish us. We survive in the caves underneath the planet, the only place where any warmth can be found. We aren't all bad though, just people who made mistakes. Together though, we can make it. We can team up and make our own civilization. Build a mighty fortress and rule over this desolate place. We can transform these caves into our new world. Build a life out of nothing. A life in Exile isn't so bad, as long as you aren't afraid to make something of yourself."

If I'm correct some personal lore has made this to be somewhat of an exception...? I mean, some people were not really slicers. For example, you, and the four orginial guardians. Also, some players (myself included) have forged their lore from the stories of others, playing as the child of slicers brought together by the artifact. (I'm quoting Art on the thread he was asking Asymp questions on.)

Jocelyn, Thief, Jedi, and countless other results of unions between those brought together by the Artifact would never exist. The world ending bomb that sounded the death knell for the world of the Artifact would never be planted. The Blight would never be released, and Loka would remain untouched and untarnished. The Guardians would remain sleeping in their chambers until the end of all things. Cryptite would remain alone on Loka, in an empty city with no slicers to guide or teach. All of the slicers who become stranded would never lose their memories, and instead continue their former lives exploring the cosmos. The War of the Third Age would never happen, and none of my people would die or experience those horrors. Varasid would never have to go hunting for his father, and would have reunited with him as soon as he woke. All of it wiped away, as if it never existed in the first place.

Excellent I'll start thinking up ideas for the future lore of Loka. starting with my own personal Lore.

I'd like to see a way for each player to be able to make their own approved character that fits in the lore.

Generally speaking, the term Slicer is given to our players as they have "sliced between worlds" - they were once scientists like Asymptonic. When creating personal lore, there can be exceptions to this, however - such as people who got here through magical means, or those who were born here, descendants of true Slicers. Some people who are exceptions - who aren't scientists from Asy's world - include Jocelyn, Cryptite, Jedoi and myself.

I would love to amass the stories lores of individual players in one place. As well as groups, Houses, alliances, ect. That'd be a fun project.
