Suggestion Town Owner Abuse

I've been on here for quite a while, and I realize that the way the rules are worded, owners can invite people just to kick them in order to obtain their belongings. I think especially with the wording in the rules as "16.1. A town owner technically has ownership over all items within it. (i.e impossible for them to steal from their own town)" gives them even more right to believe in this scheme. This is why I think there should be a new rule to help people who have lost their items wrongly. Now, I do understand this will be quite hard to implement, considering someone can always claim something is theirs, but I do believe this is very important to Lokans' rights and will help people from not giving up on Loka when everything seems stacked against them. Even if this doesn't happen very often, it's something that shouldn't happen to people at all.

This is what I've worked on so far:
If a town owner kicks a player, the player still has the right to keep their belongings within their house or what was on them if killed unless said player has been shown to steal things (this being backed up by perhaps logs) or has been inactive for a long time (perhaps 2 months).

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts and opinions in the comments :D

I'd expect the rule to become more of a gray area as time progresses, as when I have an inactive player I'll repossess their valuables and put their home up for reclaiming. But for the short term where someone joins a town and has their items taken hostage, I think there is room for discussing a new rule.

I totally agree with that, which is why I think there should definitely be a time limit for stuff like this. It'll make it so much easier because you can't actually know when someone is coming back unless they tell you beforehand.

When we've talked about this in the past we always concluded that it's something the community should regulate themselves. If a town adds people, kills them, then takes their stuff it reflects poorly on the town and their reputation takes a big hit. Adding exemptions and fine print to the rules creates confusion and unnecessary work for the admin team. However, we will not punish players who take their stuff with them while leaving.

I understand where you're coming from. I know y'all don't want to make things too complicated for the staff team. However, when you leave stuff like this up to the members of the community, it still won't stop them from doing it. You can say "their reputation takes a big hit", but in the end, what can one really do? You can shun them and think badly about them, but in the end, their stuff is gone, and they still feel mentally defeated (which imo shouldn't be happening). I definitely think we should try to find common ground here, but as it is, it doesn't do any good for the common Lokan.

This makes a lot of sense. I myself would never steal from my town members, but I could mention two town owners I was with that stole my stuff (the owners of the first two towns I was in, but for privacy's sake I won't list them here) and it was very demoralizing.
