We are now on 1.9!

We're good to go, folks! 1.9 is now available on Loka. For the most part the transition is perfectly smooth, and there are only a couple of caveats to the update in terms of plugins we're still waiting on. Namely:
  • EchoPet - The plugin that handles our Pets is no longer being maintained by its author. Somebody else might pick up the job and release a 1.9 compatible version, but until then, we've had to disable the Pets bit of Loka for now
  • LibsDisguises - This is the plugin that helps disguise our custom mobs. As a result, you'll find that all of your Town Guards are now Pig Zombies and dock guards are Iron Golems. Fortunately, this only affects what they look like and they should otherwise have the same health/damage as they used to.
What else should you know?
  • The End - Will be coming soon, but we have some preparations to do on our end before we can make it available to Lokans. For now it will be unaccessible, but it's one of our top priorities now that we've made the transition to 1.9. Otherwise, here are what we're going to be changing in the End specific to Loka:
    • Elytras/Dragon Heads - will drop from the Ender Dragon, and will not be found in End Cities. End Cities will have their loot chests removed, as we're effectively cordoning off a section of the End to behave much like the Nether, in which all block changes will revert after a few hours.
    • Endermen - will still drop Ender Pearls, but with a very low drop rate %.
    • Chorus - will, like Netherwart, only grow in the End and cannot be grown on any of the continents
    • Shulkers - will likely respawn like blocks would, in order that people still get to die from them over and over :)
  • Beetroot - Will be added to the South Continent of Garama soon. It will, like other crops, only grow there.
  • Chorus Fruit - Like Ender Pearls, eating this will not allow you to warp through a wall or anything in a town and will be subject to the same limitations of Ender Pearls in foreign towns.
  • New Enchants - In vanilla, these only show up in Dungeons, but we have none, so we're going to have to add this to Loka in some special way, which we haven't figured out yet.
  • Elytra Flight - This will be allowed as usual, but the minute you touch town protection with an Elytra, you will be immediately teleported to the ground. It is not our intention for everybody to feel forced to build domes so that people can't fly over their walls.
  • Arenas/Battlegrounds - We'll be updating these to 1.9 soon as well, but they will remain unavailable at first.
The Loka Sound Pack - Minecraft will complain that this is an 'old version resource pack' but rest assured it still works on Loka. We'll update it to be 1.9 compatible as soon as we're able to, but it still works with 1.9 anyway.

We tested what we could with 1.9, but we can make no guarantees that everything will work as it used to. Please report any and all issues you find with the update to an admin as soon as you find them so we can stay on top of any big issues we find. Fortunately, 1.9 was a well-made update and not much changed in terms of what plugin-makers needed to update.

Welp, Go Forth!

As you said, Elytra drop from the ender dragon, so I am assuming players will be able to respawn it as you would be able to in single player?

We'll at least be able to plant them for decoration I hope?

Edit: Actually, I guess they can't be planted like sugarcane can. That's disappointing. Would it be possible to allow us to grow them on the surface but not drop anything when destroyed?

  • The End
Could we build our own end portals in towns? They'd be amazing for decoration.

  • New Enchants
You should add your own custom version of Thaumcraft arcane infusion. Because Thaumcraft is awesome. And we need it. As soon as we get the Mod API. So maybe 2020.

BUG FOUND!

You can't claim items in your escrow chest.

Locked doors remain in the open position regardless if closed when locked.

BUG FOUND... kinda...
Hitboxes are kinda screwy. Spiders in particular can't be hit at the same distances as usual.

Is it just me or is mob spawning really buggy. Makosa is littered with mobs every second of the day, no matter what time. They keep spawning in dark glitchy spots under my trees and I can't do anything without being set on fire. This happened before, but there wasn't as many and they weren't as aggressive.

I've noticed this too. At first I didn't mind the increased spawn rates as it helps me with grinding, but I see how it could be a problem for others.

Earlier I was trying to take apart my barn could replace it with a new design but the mobs from the nearby tree were so agressive and so constant that I couldn't get anything done. The new 1.9 pvp mechcanics are easy for me to adapt to since they don't alter my PVP style too drastically, I mostly use a bow and kite with a sword, but the numbers is what bothered me and prevented my work.

Is there any way to change the code of infinite pearls so that it returns to your off-hand if that's where it is equipped? Currently it'll be placed in your first open inventory slot so eventually your off-hand stock runs out.

Edit: wow, after using it more this off-hand slot feels so clunky

I haven't really used the off-hand feature myself. Every time I try it's like playing a game of Octodad.

Trust me, you should give it a shot. Once you get used to it, it's really convenient, not to mention a HUGE asset in pvp and pve.

Even just exploring becomes easier. Keep some torches in your off hand and you don't have to switch back and forth anymore. It's not some mind blowing change but its just nice that Steve has finally discovered his second hand.
