Website Town Pages

I noticed that not many of you (read: hardly any) make use of the town website pages. I'm mostly posting this just to see why. Perhaps it's that they're not well known about or perhaps that their purpose is enigmatic. If you have checked them out, are there some things that confuse you? ought to be changed? added?

Some people have been wondering whether town alcoves are going to come back. The idea is that the website would be a way to replace that as the alcoves themselves were a lot of work and would continue to be so if towns began to be created again on a regular basis. I know the town sites are sort of light on features, but some things I thought could be added (aside from customizing your town header picture) would be a description area of some sort so that towns could better write about themselves in order to advertise.

Whatchu guys think?

I think all the town on there right now are private :(
I would also opt for adding more on our new world town on the wiki. It's a bit of a let-down advertising all this "Loka has a rich lore and story! :D " and then just having a load of towns lost to the old world on the wiki page. People get confused when all there are all these people running around with blue brackets and (supposedly) no towns.

Yeah... there's really not much to see with everyone being private. You might want to clarify that in-game and website privacy are two different things and add different levels of privacy so you can either hide your town completely or just hide certain information.

How would it play out if they were connected, but you had to adjust your privacy settings via the town page?

I am aware that there were town specific pages floating around but I don't honestly know where to go get to it and if I did how to edit it.

I could have any number of 'town privacy settings'. The situation I see is that when you create a brand new town, your town is public. The minute you create a new town, it'd show up on the towns list page. I don't see some people necessarily wanting that to happen. Though at the same time, everybody finds out about towns at some point.

No matter the privacy setting, though, the town board (which is a forum for your town, essentially) only shows up for town members and noone else.

Lazuli, just go to the towns page on our website. http://loka.minecraftarium.com/townslist

Well I'm thinking that all towns begin as 'private' where both /g info and their town page are hidden from view. If they wish to change any settings they are referred to their page where they can activate /g info, make their town page public, etc. If they make /g info publicly accessible they could change what all is displayed to foreigners.

Maybe too complicated, but that's what I'd like.

Also as I just discovered, cropping banners is very funked up and I can't seem to get rid of the black space now.

I'm on board with keeping the privacy settings separate between in-game and on the site. I'd be fine with the town board being open but not my generator's radius, cost, nether prot, and current balance being viewable in-game.

That being said, tiers of privacy would be nice. I'd love to be able to toggle between posts only my town can see and posts everyone can see. Also, the mention of a description segment or something along those lines would make a difference. I think people are still wary to advertise and recruit given the nature of things right now, though.

Out of curiosity, try renaming the screenshot you're using to upload with to something else and see if that works :3

Not sure why but I never really considered towns wanting to write on other towns' boards. I think I'll emphasize the boards a little more and then just keep the comments section a little smaller and related mostly just to the town front page/description.

Control over private/public town boards is a sure must so I'll work on adding that as well.

Nah it's not the picture. I've renamed and changed screenshots. It appears that crop settings are saved and there's no way to remove the crop, just adjust it.

Just finished adding a 'description/board' thing for town pages. You now have a little editor (much like the forum post editor) in which to write a nicely formatted description of your town for advertising purposes, etc. Enjoy!
