what is chat spam

This is my opinion.

ooohh no! (Not spam)

G-god. (Not spam)

Hiiiiiiiii. (Not spam)

$#%##$
$%%$$#
$%%%% <----- spam
$%%&&

It's the use of multiple lines for the purpose of filling chat (by a single person) that I consider spam

Recently, some sentries & guardians. Have been calling "nooooo" spam

The extra ,"ooooo" are being used to express an emotion.

If I fall in lava with 20dia ore....at home in my chair I am yelling "Noooooooo"
Believe me...if i burn up 20dia ore...I am not going to simply say "no"

By calling. "Noooooooo" spam we take some of the emotion out of chat.

What do you allllllllllll think?

Noooooooooooo d-don't s-s-spam c-c-chat. Just kidding. Let's get serious.
Currently spam is defined as what the highest ranking admin online doesn't want to read. All clear /thread.

I don't know of anybody saying that anything quite as short as "nooooo" is chat spam. Mag has, however, pointed out instances in which people prolonged a single letter of a word for almost if not more than a line of chat, which is wholly unnecessary and is indeed a form of spam.

On a slightly unrelated note, if you feel the need to vent your emotions, you ought to be able to do it in some other way besides holding down a key on your keyboard so that everyone's eyes are immediately drawn to that single word. A simple "Fiddlesticks" or "Feathers" should do the job fine. :p

In my opinion, spam is excessive use of chat when it doesn't need to be used.

IE, if no one is talking at the time and "xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx" joins the game and starts doing this:
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: gib me admin
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: f***
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: s***
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: i gib u bad rebiw
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
xX_-_360NoScOpE_-_Xx: aaaaaaaaaaaa

That is spam, and in my opinion, the same applies for any current member who is typing to much no relevant crap.
Rant over.

Spam would be anything that takes up unnecessary space in the chat box. What is defined as unnecessary varies by person, but generally this includes advertisements, stretched out words, gibberish, song lyrics, and repeating the same thing multiple times. As such, you can't really justify calling one line of chat spam because that is the minimum amount of space that chat can fill.

It is not just a case of the amount of space it takes up. It is also the fact that it draws your attention to what a person is saying in chat like capitals. Likewise more than one person can coordinate to create spam by alternating who says a sentence very quickly so chat fills up with nonsense. But as mop said its common sense, if the admin feels one or a group of people are making chat a less pleasant place to be they will warn and/or kick the player/players involved.

Common sense isn't in the rules.

And alternating is still spam as you'd be saying more than one line per player.

Uh, I know this thread is kind of dead, but looking at this again, I think something like,

h-hello I a-am J-Jedoi a-and I l-like d-dragons a-and wr-writing, is spam where

h-hello I am Jedoi and I l-like dragons and w-writing, Is not spam

And,
noooooooooooooooooooo is spam, where

noooo is not.

I may be completely wrong, thats just my thoughts. Mm thoughts to this....dead....now living.....thread.
