Ancient Gulch Breakdown
Style: MOBA
Size: 4v4 - 6v6
Win Goal: Destroy the enemy's core
Lore: Coming Soon!

In Ancient Gulch, players can choose a variety of tasks to carry out to try to increase their individual player level. As your level increases, your damage and resistance increases versus both players and some of the monstrosities found in the Gulch.

The goal is to destroy the enemy core, but to do that you must first destroy the enemy's 2 towers in order. The towers are guarded by Ancient Protectors, the same you would find guarding Territory Generators and Inhibitors. Kill the protectors to get Charged and then stand near the Tower's Power Sources in order to overload them and, in the end, destroy the Towers.

The map layout provides a main lane running West to East on which can be found the towers and the ways into each team's base. Additionally, however, there are "Jungles". Those of you familiar with MOBAs (League of Legends, DOTA, etc) already know what that means. In the Jungles (top and bottom/north and south) are a variety of monsters that can be slain to also help you level your character without necessarily needing to engage in direct PvP combat. The Jungle Lanes are tactically placed above the main lane and feature a number of ways in and out, allowing potential gank setups. You should watch the skies as much as the trees around you!

There are three regular monsters found in the Jungles:
  • Soulless Walkers (Zombies)
  • Rattling Archer (Skeletons)
  • Nether Guardians (Zombie Pigmen)
Additionally there is a fourth type of enemy that each section of the jungle (4 in total, 2 for each team side) that spawns; a Lost Protector. This is a neutral Protector Golem that can be killed to provide 60 seconds of Speed II, Strength I, and a 30 second Charge buff which can be used to attempt to help destroy a tower separate from the two golems that each Tower has guarding it.

Finally, in the main lane, off to the side in the middle is an alcove in which the very horrible Unbound Trio spawn. These three black foes will deal death and destruction to any low-level or disorganized team that attempt to destroy them. However, if your team should succeed in killing the health-linked Trio, your entire team regardless of place on the map will gain 3 minutes of Strength I and a good bit of XP to boot.

Once both of a team's towers are destroyed, a team may attempt to approach the enemy team core and destroy it by attacking the Beacons. Not all features are implemented yet, but the Core fight should present a challenge of its own.

In the Gulch, death is much more punishing; not only because it helps level up enemies, but respawn timers are longer and increase with your player's level, helping to ensure that games will eventually end at some point. Have your wits about you and do not rush so blindly into enemy territory without proper preparation. Death is not be treated so lightly here in the Gulch!

With the variety of objectives and new challenges, Ancient Gulch aims to provide a slightly longer, but objectively more strategic battleground that should promise no shortage of exciting battles to come*!

We'll see you in the Gulch!

*Of course we're only in public beta at this time so things are certainly subject to change. As always, stay tuned to the PvP Forums to see updates to AG!
