To preface this post, I have already seen where Cryptite said he believes attribute swapping is a bad mechanic and where Magpie said it was a Minecraft bug
This post is mostly about attribute swapping/cooldown tricking as a method for Shield Disabling.
To explain why this is useful and why my opinion is valid on this: Attribute Swapping from your [Sword] -> [Axe] enables you to do a hit with the damage of your sword and shield breaking of the axe. This comes at the cost of a longer cooldown since you are swapping between items, making this BALANCED.
I am a very experienced shield player, having reached HT1 in SMP and HT2 in UHC which may help establish credibility for what I am saying. It is a fundamental necessity to have effective shield disables when it comes to PvP involving a shield.
Why is this important? The short answer is: Shield Wall. In many scenarios and fights, it becomes nearly impossible to disable your opponents shield.
Many players may say "This is a skill issue" however, I would disagree by saying: "changing the vanilla behavior of Minecraft to make something far more difficult is unreasonable".
A more in depth explanation comes from the fact that with the 250ms base shield delay + your ping, it becomes a game of reaction time rather than prediction which is where most of the shield disabling skill stems from. It essentially means you will have to create your entire playstyle around running away from them and not fighting, since with reaction time based shield disables, you are forced to play in a way where you cannot have an advantage, even when disabling their shield.
This argument can be framed in the same way as KB Sync. KB Sync is generally used to "improve" what Minecraft has either chose not to fix, or is unable to fix. However, we all know the Lokan stance on this.
I believe that many Loka players would have no problem with Attribute Swapping working when swapping to your axe, as in shield wall, it becomes nearly impossible to take a 1v1 against a competent shield player, no matter how good your gameplay is.
"This is a Minecraft Bug!!!!" To be clear, this has been a reported/confirmed bug for 13 Years. That is literally older than some of the people on Loka
I take the stance that if this was an important bug for Minecraft to fix, then it would have been done by now. To be honest, I do not believe this is something that will be changed by them in the near future.
HOWEVER: I believe attribute swapping applying to your Spear would be way too overpowered. A simple fix for this would be forcing your spear onto maximum cooldown whenever you are not holding it.
