Suggestion Changes to Loka are needed.

I joined the server on January 13, 2017. I made a town, Slapbutts, and made a few friends on Ascalon. after a reasonable amount of time and fighting with Byzantium, Conquest came to a standstill. We weren't invited to an active alliance, and our town went downhill. Eventually, it became ruins.

A few months went by and we formed another town. We were on a plains tile with no other towns around for safety. We had no conquest action that this server is known for. Miracalis offered us a town merge and we accepted. After some time in town with no conquest fights, All of our members left.

A year went by and we wanted to give the server another chance. We formed Default. This was our best town so far. With a bunch of people ready to build a new town, we got to work until enemies from a town close by started to kill us in town. With a constant challenge of losing gear and being drastically slowed in our progression, we eventually built a wall with a trench down to bedrock to discourage any people from bow boosting or elytra glitching in. After the wall was built, we finally got to work on our town to clear trees, build houses, and make an auto brewer. We warped to a few fights and helped reinforce some of our friendly towns. When it came to grinding out materials needed for the town, people ignored it or went to another server or game. After some time, people gave up on Loka and quit playing. Although this is an issue of the players themselves, most of the inactivity came from the lack of action on the server.

lilfros kept playing because he found people looking to form a new town. He moved to Garama and formed New Fruitopia. We formed an alliance with Salem and our push for capital began. Many, many fights ensued for the next few weeks. Numbers were at 50+ for reins fights and dropped back to around 20 after about an hour. Last I checked, there were 7 people online. Yes, I am aware of the issues with Stormgarden and some things on signs. But I seriously doubt they would have left permanently from the server if there was more content.

To further my point, I took a graph from https://minecraft-statistic.net
loka stats.PNG
The low spots are a 0 player average.
The highest peak was 99 for scale.
You can see over the past year how inconsistent the server has been.

Now I know that there should be spikes of players during fights but jumping from 40 average to 0 average is legitimately terrible.

Don't get me wrong here. I love Loka. But its for the wrong reasons. When I get on the server, it's either for a conquest fight or because a town member needs help with something. The past few days I've been playing a lot but there wasn't much to do. I love Loka because of the community we have and the amount of history behind what was once an active server.

Loka has the following special-to-server things:
  • Conquest
  • Quests at spawn
  • Town Leveling
There could be a few that I missed but I believe that those are the major parts of Loka that people either get on for or use often.

Recap:
Loka needs to change desperately.
A large percentage of new players join towns and leave within half an hour because Loka seems like a towny server.
Without conquest/action happening, people aren't interested in playing resulting in low player counts and high spikes during conquest fights.
We need some form of new content to keep people playing.

Thank you for your input on this pressing issue, please leave your suggestions or contradictions in the replies.

I encourage you to listen to our recent State of the Server. The lack of content on Loka beyond Conquest is well-known and the SOTS enumerates the numerous content updates planned to address this in the near and distance future.
I listened to the state of the server live and suggested a few things. I hope that these changes you're talking about happen sometime in the near future because I haven't seen any large content changes outside of conquest since I started playing the server two and a half years ago.

The changes Loka needs are inorganic, and frankly I don’t see them happening due to the scale of revisions needed.

For me, I would like to see a balancing system in place for conquest fights - ensuring they are fun and fair. Seeing as there has been a mass quitting of some fairly crucial players on Loka, numbers on one side have been impacted - I feel those who chose to remain shouldn’t have to fight 8v30s. What is the point?

At least until new content is done maybe try doing the more simple things of mixing up what we have, revises to general conquest and how it could be fairer and changed in easy ways to keep more people on at a time.
I understand for me I play Loka primarily to build a town but I always worry what happens once it's built or if nobody else is playing, what's the point of building something to show off if you have nobody to show it to.
And then if building stuff falls through and I get bored what do I have to do next apart from Conquest and Conquest.
I understand it takes time to do things but Froggy has a point that could lead things downhill if something isn't to change but we must be able to do some things now that are easy and will help at least keep things not going into chaos for a while

Agreed that this is probably the most important issue faces right now. As Crypt said, staff and the PvE Team are well aware of this; from what little I know, I believe a lot of the recent stalls have been largely due to things outside staff’s control, like the 1.13 coding mess, the 1.14 issues preventing them from updating, and just having to wait for plugins to update to 1.13.

I do think staff should reconsider the massive staff inactivity issues and put in some new people, but that’s a separate discussion.

Few years ago I made threads about what the start game lacks and what the end game lacks to keep players active. Crypt implemented half of both suggestions I made there.

Now there's another.

Stop being so damn secretive.
Give some content to look forward to. Build hype. Just look at hytale. A sneak peek of something.

There's a reason Steve Jobs announced iPhone before it was actually working. To hook people onto it.

Take on helping hands with coding if needed. Get rid of inactive staff members and let some fresh souls experience the thrill of being promoted. Old farts keep their deets they don't even sit into yet new souls have to burn themselves out.

make the community part of the server.

Also not everyone has time to listen to it. Give a staff member a job to write a summary of it all and provide them with some pics of things happening.

RuneScape is only succeeding cause it changed and is open on what they do
