Well the title pretty much describes the (bug?)

When you connect a hopper to a chest, the hopper won't feed the chest unless the chest has an air block above it.

This is a bit weird since Loka supposedly doesn't require airblocks above chests to be able to use them.

Is this intended or a bug?

Chests on loka have been encoded to enable open when blocks are above but the hoppers use mechanics that are in regular mine craft. Which means hoppers will not feed a block covered chest as they can't be opened normal are regular survive. You can place glass instead as that lets hoppers work normal as air.

Yeah this is essentially intended. The mechanics of making a chest with a block over it are much easier to solve than the same with a hopper, especially since hoppers already look for certain types of blocks above them. We'll probably keep this as is.

A half slab over the chest does not freeze the hopper. That is how I have been getting around it.
