Type /register while in-game to register for a forums account.

It can be quite difficult for players to see at night in proving grounds. If possible it would be a lot easier for it to be only daytime, this way players can pvp without the hassle.

That is true, some people can use gamma or optifine but some players don't want to use those options.

I don't think Optifine's time settings work when you're in survival.
