Suggestion Falling Town Alert

Hey all!

I assume this has a reason it is not currently implemented, but I can’t figure out why. Regardless, I want to at least raise some discussion about it.

When a Town falls, a message appears in chat saying something to the effect of “A Town has fallen!” There is no mention of which Town it was, or even which continent it was on. This seems problematic to me, because it means only the very involved, very attentive regulars of the server will have a chance to raid the Town’s loot - and that’s only if they happen to be online when it happens - because everyone else has to randomly guess which Town fell.

The only potential reason I can see for not including basic information on which Town fell is to encourage natural discovery over frantic raiding, but this has its issues. As it stands, Towns that fall are still raided very quickly after they fall due to older players finding ways to tell which Town it was by using glitches on the Dynmap or other means. Newer or less involved players have no chance of getting to loot the Town, and natural discovery of said Town won’t happen, because as stated before, old players have their ways of getting to dead Towns fast.

Giving the Town name, continent, and/or coordinates would, in my opinion, allow new and less involved players to have a chance at finding some awesome loot and getting the thrill of danger that comes with a Town being swarmed with raiders. What do you think?

The town will be swarmed with raiders either way. I do see your point that obfuscating which town went down gives only the people who truly study the map a chance to raid it. I suppose it couldn't hurt to announce the town that went down and where, but all the same I think it'll always be an utter gankfest if a town dies during any reasonably active hour.

i have to agree with crypt. Even when its not announced, ive met people from 5 different towns trying to gank whoever also is attempting to raid the fallen land.

The main reason we decided not to disclose which town died, was to prevent the best pvpers always getting the best stuff. If everyone shows up, then it's only natural that those best at pvp will kill everyone there and raid the best items.

Now that void storage randomly distributes items across all chests in a town, it would be more difficult for pvpers to camp the storage areas. So it's possible we could disclose more info on the location of the town. One option would be to only tell the exact location to those with a town or radars within a certain radius of the dead town.

Honestly I think that would be more fun than it is currently. As you said, it will be swarmed either way, but announcing more clearly gives newer players a chance as well.

Again, isn’t that more fun than being one of the few people there who knows which Town fell?

That would be interesting, using radars, hmm...
