Implement in Future Fishing Update

Fishing in Loka has a lot of potential with the weight that you can pull on the fish, but it is overlooked and can get boring fast. I have a few suggestions that could perhaps make fishing more eventful:

Main suggestion that will be used for the smaller ones below:

Fishing Level:
This could be for town or for player but the more fish you catch the higher level you get, which the higher level you have, the higher chance it is that you catch treasure or higher weight fish. This could also would summon higher level Guardian Fish (name isn’t set in stone) which would drop more rewards once defeated.

Guardian Fish
A Guardian Fish would be sort of an anti afk fishing mechanic as a side purpose to its main purpose, which would be a mini boss you fight while fishing to make fishing more exciting. The level of Guardian it is would rely on the town level or player level on who caught it, higher levels dropping shards or more EXP in game, and maybe at higher levels enchanted pieces of armor or tools. There would be a cap to the level of fish and each level of fish would be harder to defeat than the previous level, but would drop slightly more valuable items.

More Weight = More Level
The only way you would be able to catch Titanic or Monster fish is to be at a certain level, which gets rid of the luck factor to a certain extent and will make it more viable for fishers to get higher weight class of fish the more they fish, rather than a new player grabbing a rod and casting it once and catching a 245 lbs Titanic fish. This wouldn’t give the higher leveled players a higher chance of getting the large fish, but would unlock the ability to catch up to their weight level. (Example: Level 1 fisher can’t catch 80lbs+, but Level 25 can catch up to 145lbs) (It’s up to admins to decide what level would be what weight)

Fishing Jobs
At the docks of any continent or the docks at Alaska, there should be an NPC that buys fish based on their weight and will pay more shards based on how much they weigh at a certain range (1 shard for 1-20 lbs, 2 for 20-40, etc) But won’t pay a lot until you get to the larger fish.

Higher Weight = More Right Clicks to catch
Say the lower fish can be caught in one and the monster fish can be caught in 2-3, with Titanic fish being 5-10 clicks. Just to add realism into it

These are some really cool ideas that could improve fishing a lot. Making even the simplest stuff, like fishing, better through more interesting systems such as this one would be awesome.

you've obviously thought a lot about this, and I could see this change being fun but I don't agree with the minibosses. It just doesn't fit the atmosphere.

Yeah that's a cool idea for sure, there's this terreria NPC which has a really cool mechanic to it I really believe could be used in Loka.

Well what I primarily meant was like a Guardian popping up with more health and if you kill it you get a couple shards. And if you’ve got a higher level maybe an elder guardian that spawns that may drop a power shard core or something of the sort

I think the little mini boss could be cool if it were something that could pop up when fishing in certain areas of the world. This could also go along with adding in area specific fish, something similar to how fishing in Sea of Thieves does it with different types of fish in very specific places.

I got the mini boss idea from the Megalodon from Sea of Thieves lol

If it doesnt fit the atmosphere perhaps the spawn fishing atmosphere or the fishing tournament, they could just not spawn there.
There also could be custom baits to make it so they have a 0% chance of spawning when using them.

Baits is also a really cool idea. Maybe keep the current system where you can fish without baits, however I think that adding some baits in would be really cool.

Fishing is pretty useless right now outside of tournaments. Minibosses, and other tasks to complete while fishing towards a worthwhile goal, would make fishing less of a chore and a much higher pick on the list of things people want to do.

I also would like to see higher tier fish, different fishing drops (the items besides fish), and possibly a different big fish boss spawn in high traffic areas of the map such as the resource island, off the coast of the nether island, etc to introduce risk into higher rewards.

As for the higher level the higher weight, I would have it disabled for fishing tournaments for obvious reasons.

Another suggestion I had was a meat market NPC where you can sell these big fish for shards, possible lore items, cool fishing poles, titles, etc.

I think fishing could be a really cool system and would be a good passtime for people on the server. Definitely something to do in the future.

Honestly another way you could spice up fishing would be to change the way in which fish are caught- for example, you could have to point your view in a certain direction depending on where the fish is. This is similar to how sea of thieves handles things and would be quite cool to see.

Lots of good ideas here. Some on our list already, but a bunch of things we want to add to fishing. I wouldn't expect anything to come out in the short term, but a lot of this lines up with our goal of adding more PvE style content.
