There seem to be an influx of bot accounts signing up and advertising on the forum boards. Think we could have it so people have to be approved first before they can post or something?

That just puts us on google searches. It's probably how the bots found us but it doesn't spam itself.

Correct, it's one of several spider bots specifically allowed by forums like phpbb, etc to index your forums so that they're searchable through google/bing/yahoo/etc.
