Former Punishments:
Prior to this ban, I have had two previous bans on the server. My first punishment was a permanent ban due to Assisting with Ban evasion dating from July 5th, 2023 (Date of Ban) to January 22nd, 2024 (Date of unban). My second punishment was due to an inappropriate IGN, which was quickly dismissed after I changed my username. I also have had two permanent mutes, with the second one still being in effect prior to my ban.
Details of my ban:
Being permanently banned for an inappropriate username is uncommon, however I believe the Loka staff made this decision due to my former punishments relating to toxicity on the server as well as the hateful rhetoric the username entailed. Following the ban, I opened a ticket to see if I would get relieved of my punishment if I had changed my username, however the staff member dealing with my ticket told me I would have to appeal this ban in the forums. I did not argue with this decision by the staff member and closed my ticket.
Why I did it:
I will now explain more in depth about why I made my username this in the first place, however please note that this is not in any means a way for me to down play my actions what so ever. To those not familiar with the term "foid," it was originated by incels online as a slur towards women, used to describe women as inhuman or robotic. At the time I made my username "foid_demolisher," the term foid was gaining popularity on social media. This was less so from the narrative of people using the word in the traditional manner, rather people taking an edgy view on the word for shock value. I would like it to be known for my own personal sake, that I do not at all believe in the sexist and incel narrative that the word originated from what so ever. It was what I deemed at the time as just a mindless online trend and did not deem the word as a serious slur, neither did I expect many people to know its meaning at all. Despite this, the action of making my in game username "foid_demolisher" still contributes to empowering the same word, which is used by those online to unjustly hate on women.
Apology:
I fully recognize and agree that this ban was a fully justified response by the Loka staff team due to the hateful message my username and the word foid promotes. I am disappointed and embarrassed in myself to be having to write this appeal, but I cannot blame anyone but myself because of this. Something isn't merely a "joke" if it hurts others in the process, and when I made the decision to change my username, I made the decision to fuel more sexist rhetoric into a world that has far enough of it already. Loka has a player base of many different age groups, which also includes a younger, more impressionable audience. As an older player on the server, I have a responsibility to set a good example to the younger players, which I very much failed in doing so. I ask for forgiveness and a second chance, so I can once again enjoy the server I met so many friends and built so many great memories on. It will be up to the Loka staff if they decide that I have served the time for my punishment, and I will respect their decision in doing so. Despite the outcome of this appeal, I hope this can still be recognized as a genuine apology for my previous actions.
