I think it is currently done via crafting because that was simpler to implement, but having you be able to brew DBR if possible would be very nice, or at the very least, getting 3 DBR pots for 1 ingredient like you would when brewing any other potion in the game via brewing stand

I think we wanted it to be that at the time, but there was something about making it be a custom brewing recipe that wasn't working or was complicated or something. Worth another look.

or just keeping it a crafting recipe but having it give 3 DBR instead of 1

It being brewed would be more fun/immersive but autocrafters have solved the real problem with it being custom recipe. Bringing it to 3 pots per craft would be a good stopgap fix if making them actual brewed potions is difficult.
