Guardian
Age: 16

Current rank: Slicer

Which rank you are applying for: Guardian

What you think is expected of this rank: Guardians help the server by fulfilling the needs of Loka. Guardians are responsible for helping players understand the nature of the server, resolving problems of the playerbase, and working as a team internally to do so. Guardians are also responsible for upholding the values of Loka by enforcing the rules. They enforce rules in every way, whether it be chat, hacking, bug abuse, or town betrayal. They act in the interest of Loka’s values and are role-models for the community. They also need to be versatile to be able to solve ongoing problems without getting stuck, specifically doing what has to be done, regardless of how boring the work may be. Most of all, Guardians need to perform their jobs without compromising their integrity and keeping their composure.

Additionally, as I am applying for Guardian as a Slicer, the expectations of Sentry are also important. Sentries need to be capable of moderating chat and enforcing chat rules, as well as representing Loka as a whole. They need to be well-versed in what constitutes trolling, bullying, harassment, bigotry, and racism. There is a fine line and it is crucial to know where this line is.

Why you think you should become this rank: I've been playing Loka for a good two years and I know the community and the rules pretty well. During this time I've been working behind the scenes on multiple different projects since I've gotten onto the build team. I have nothing but love for Loka, it has to be the most fun and unique Minecraft server I’ve ever played on. I would like to assist in continuing the creation of this experience through the skills I possess and can offer Loka. I have touched nearly every area of not only what Minecraft has to offer, but also every area of what Loka has to offer: building, redstone, PvP, conquest, development, etc. I have a wide variety of knowledge in many areas, including Minecraft itself, computers, and generally being able to solve problems efficiently. I have taken on a good bit of projects on the build team and have worked hard to finish them, no matter how hard or trifling. This is something that I will translate into being a Guardian on Loka, as I am prepared to solve any problem that may come my way as well as resolve any issues which players may be having.

To address the elephant in the room, yes, I am currently only a Slicer. Although I may be one of the only people to apply for Guardian as a Slicer, I believe that I have potential to be a good Guardian. I have a very particular set of skills which can help not only with development but with technical issues that Loka or Lokans may face.

When you started playing on the server: June 5th, 2020

Time zone: CST (GMT-6)

How often do you play (hours a day/week): I log on pretty much everyday, 2-6 hours depending on how my schedule looks.

-1 imo gotta get that sentry experience for at least a month, apply for sentry and I'll plus 1
I understand that, but it would be pretty easy to pickup given its just around 10 commands I would need to learn, some of them are self explanatory :P

I haven’t been playing for so long, but I realized that all the staff have different jobs. And there is a really huge difference between slicer and guardian. I do think every person should at least apply to sentry before guardian. Sentry is a whole different experience and maybe you might even not like it! Even tho Mocc is a great person and a very chill person, I do think every player should have the experience of being a sentry before guardian. I am sorry to -1 this one but I would love to +1 if Mocc applied for Sentry.

But I didn’t say you should learn the sentry commands first, I said you should get the sentry experience first. It’s one thing to know the commands and it’s another thing to have worked with the other sentries and staff team, enforced the server rules fair, and imo being sentry for some odd what years now I know being Guardian is a much bigger work load

What’s the point of letting anyone apply for guardian if your not sentry everyone complains about it
Also talking to some sentries about Loka staff is they’re upset they don’t do much mooc does stuff everywhere else and the stuff he would pickup from sentry he already has it
+1 pepega

What would he gain from being a sentry
Let's put this in another term.

Let's say Mooc wants to pole vault professionally. He watches hundreds of YouTube videos. He studies all the tactics and techniques. He knows what to do.

But he has never pole vaulted before. Be may have done similar things, like Let's say sprint in Clown shoes that are 7 feet high, but he hasn't pole vaulted. He can definitely keep his balance, But he also needs to experience what it's like to Pole Vault, by actually pole vaulting, and learning on hand. If he's dedicated, and atleast a month has passed, and he's ready to go pro. Then, by all means, let him pole vault professionally.

But to go straight from clown shoe marathon sprints, to pole vaulting for the first time at the Summer Olympics in Rio, is a bit of a leap.

It’s more like he’s jumping with a big metal stick to pole vaulting and you haven’t directly said what mooc would get from being a sentry that could be applied to guardian if you think he’s not dedicated enough then you should say that

Mocc is in the build team which works with PvE and BOTH teams have equal amounts of staff. Interaction isn't an issue when it comes to the back end of Loka and you're also in the build team. The Loka Build team does so much and all players are equally dedicated to their craft. All teams within Loka are connected in one way or another. Dynamic change is probably the hardest when it comes to being a Sentry. In fact, knowing the community AND the staff team helps a LOT when it comes to being a staff member here. Although, Slicer to Guardian is a big step, yes but being a Sentry for 1 month, how much will that change when you're interacting with staff constantly anyways? As for enforcing server rules, every member of the staff team must be neutral when it comes to ruling and show absolute non-bias to the BEST of their abilities. It's all listed within each of the staff pages.

To all of the Sentries that are allegedly upset that the Sentry rank doesn't do much, Apply for Guardian! Be the change and the help that you want to see. Take all the action that you can and make it happen!
