Hello Loka minecrafters.

I'm Steve5729, also known by my current IGN Orlanth. I've been playing Loka since 2016, and have been away from the server for a long time. I've only recently returned after a several-year break (despite having poked my head in a few times). A lot has changed about the server, and I have a few thoughts + suggestions for the server.

Feel free to ask me anything. I've added some of my own recent anecdotes here:

I had no idea what yellow and red zones were when I came back. Back in my day, it was effectively everywhere except conquest fights meant dropped inventories. I saw a recent post by MoistP mentioning Red RIs, and whilst I've been making good use of Yellow zones, I would like to see something like this. Also, listening to the recent SOTS, Crypt mentioned requests for capital policies. With these thoughts together, I think it'd be cool to allow capitals to dictate their continent's RI should be Red as a policy. Interested in discussing this further.

I also had a run-in with the witch hunter recently. I'll be honest, I hate this boss. He shoots 2-shot arrows through walls, randomly regens all his health, and summons scaling counts of small hitbox mobs. In my tribulation (and probably 30+ deaths against the mob), I found that it was MUCH easier to solo the boss by kiting it rather than relying on other players. The boss being out in the open makes this a bit more of a problem, since I, at one point, had to ask spectators to leave because it was boosting the boss's HP pool. (Shoutout splinian). That said, having a world boss is cool, and I'm glad it exists. Would be very fun if it got some polish.

I've really enjoyed achievement hunting in my recent return to the server, but I have to say this "Old Zyre" thing really has been a pain. Entirely obsolete with 30+ achievements. Honestly, no idea how to solve this, but I've heard Zyre revamp is desired by the community in some way. KOTH certainly sounds fun for sure.

Another recent issue has been that a lot of the quests are broken. Not sure why this is the case, but I've had a crazy issue with quests just bricking at certain points. I think over 80% of the quests in Aladra I've tried to start (waterstone worked at least). I don't know why this is so prevalent, but it is disappointing since so much care and detail seem to be put into all the quests. I understand staff are busy, though, it would just be cool if this were patched eventually.

Zyre was built to be bigger than what was needed because we weren't sure we'd havet the development resources to make it bigger later. We envisioned a sort of "rotating ganks extraction map", which didn't pan out exactly as we had intended. As it turns out, people would rather just sit around the docks and gank on the edge of sanctuaries so they can better pick and choose their battles. There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but it lends itself much better on smaller maps, which is why the Zyre Islets (Cove, Fissure, Fracture, and Keep) were created. We always intended to add more to Zyre itself, with bounties, KOTH, and battle royale being some of the wacky ideas thrown around. At this point, the intention is to eventually add KOTH to it, but there's no real timeline on when we would do this. We want to prioritize non-PVP aspects of the server to make it a more fleshed out MMO game, rather than just Conquest (and ganking now, I suppose).

The Witch Hunter was our first foray into adding permanent world bosses to Loka. All things considered, we're happy that people have been making use of it, and we intend to add more in the future. For what it's worth, his health regenerates fully when he gets too far from The Grey Manor (the castle/church building). His shooting through walls is also partially intended to prevent cheesing the mechanics. I suspect you might enjoy other bosses in the future when there's a wider variety of options (specifically bosses that don't make use of a crossbow/wolf pack).

We also have every intention of adding a red-tagged RI; again, it's just a question of the available resources within the development team. This is low on the priority list at the moment (it will be until at least the end of the year before we really dive into fleshing this out).

We're aware of this, and I'll be fixing this in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, I've been incredibly busy outside of Loka and just haven't had time to look into it.

Good to see you back around, though! Coming up on my ten year next January myself... 😬

What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed since returning to Loka?
Do you think Loka is more or less player-friendly than it used to be?
What’s one thing old Loka did better than current Loka?
Do you see the community a lot more PvP-focused now?
Did Covenant still always win and have bias? @PartayArc

Reach out to me in-game sometime if you want help finding more that I might know about.

I agree, for the whole I think the PvE content on this server is some of minecraft's best. At some point just before I lost interest in the server I joined PVE team. I resigned just after, though. I think it's something I'm possibly interested in again, if you're looking for help right now.

This is quite an interesting idea...

Gameplay-wise, there has been a huge shift in what kind of gear I use on a day-to-day basis. I had a full mending set I made in 2020 that I rarely used for fear of losing it. Now I have 2 full sets that I interchange and use in all yellow zones. I even put it on my main sword to use in yellow-infested zones.

I think the community change has been even bigger, though. I'd say the server itself is much less kind to new players. I joined Loka when I was 13, and I think my experience as a new player was a much nicer introduction than many people get today. I learned a lot before getting into beef with anyone, which was lucky for me. These days I think people have too much ego and are ruder to each other on that basis.

Old Loka was the wild west in a way that I haven't felt again. Everything seems very hardline and official these days, whereas server shenanigans used to determine months.

Yes, and I don't think it's all a bad thing. PVP always has been what the server is about for me. Its competitive nature is what gives it the drive that other servers don't have. The PVE stuff on its own would be soulless, and the server would lose its charm. That said, Loka's PVE content connecting to the PVP aspects is also a key component of Loka. It makes sense why they put a lot of effort into it as well.

Covenant/Iblis together was a generational run. We're probably all washed up now, but in our prime, we were competitive for sure. I think with the same energy we still would be, but age caught up to most of us. Allegations of preference may have some validity, but I'd never say that we had staff abuse.

There's this irony that as the population grew and features became more refined the world started to feel smaller for myself; it's hard to say if that's just personal bias or not tbf.

I remember when I first started playing the sense of adventure that was somewhat curated is what hooked me.
