Current rank: Sentry

Which rank you are applying for: Guardian

What do you think is expected of this rank: A Guardian should always be expected to be at their best, helping out players to the best of their ability and bringing justice for the server when necessary, a Guardian must also set aside their opinions when needed and do what needs to be done.

Why you think you should become this rank: Ever since I became I slicer I wanted to do more for the server, welcoming new players and helping them to the best of my ability, answering any questions they have about Loka and touring them around spawn. After joining Loka's build team I have attempted to create builds for the server, whilst I haven't created many I intend to keep making builds for the server and as I become less occupied with my time I will make more and more things for the server. I truly believe that if I am promoted to Guardian I can contribute more to the server without using my building skills but instead by helping out players with whatever they need.

When you started playing on the server: I joined Loka on the 16th of December 2014 for about 20 minutes and then got bored, I came back after 2 years on the 20th of December and have been playing mostly actively since.

Time zone: GMT

How often do you play (hours a day/week): This varies due to how busy I am but I generally play for around 2-3 hours on a weekday and 3-4 hours on a weekend.

Side note: I refuse to put the thread title as Thannypoo for Guardian.

I'd love to see this happen! You're an active and helpful player and usually one of the first to welcome new players to the server! Best of luck to you Thannypoo +1

-1 I think that a sentry needs to show that he is able to talk and discuss with everyone, that is able to solve problems and help the server with good arguements before becoming a guardian. And tbh i havent seen u do nothing of that as a sentry. Even being a chat mod i never saw u in chat when the things get salty and someone needs to make people chill

+1 Although Busco brings up a sorta valid point, whenever I was online after you got promoted to Sentry you needed to participate a bit more in chat moderation, don't be so hesitant, it's your job so you shouldn't be scared to do it. I know people get scared of getting people mad at them but it's your job, just gotta do it tbh. I feel like since this has been brought up to you, you should be able to work on that and easily nail it by the time promotions come around, you're a smart guy and a good person.

Aside from those qualities, you've definitely put in work for the server in terms of builds and I know you're currently working on more, seeing your GCSE's looming over you and you still being active on Loka shows dedication, so good job on that.

I would agree that in the past I've been rather hesitant when the time came to hand out punishments to players, ever since gaining the Sentry role I've never been sure if something was bad enough to punish the player or to just tell them to cool it through a message, I have however always tried to improve my capability to make these decisions and continue to do so.

+1 Than is a great guy and I’d really love to see him as a guardian too, he’s helped me many times with issues and never fails to welcome a new member.

Just from what others have also said to me on my application, I don't think either of us have spent enough time as a sentry to be given guardianship. We both should spend more time being sentries before try moving forward. So its a -1 from me

But Tera, that's what people have said about you. Don't bring it over here it doesn't apply to Than. In my opinion, Than has been a great sentry in this short period of time. He's very dedicated to Loka, I always notice him welcoming new players, helping players out, answering questions etc etc. He has clearly contributed a lot to Loka by means of the build team helping out the server in the shadows or other things and it is evident that he could offer so much more by getting promoted.

I just think that we could both use more time being sentries. There’s more that than could learn and more that I could learn. I’m not saying he would be a bad guardian. I’m just saying that he could use more time to learn more from other guardians and staff. That’s all.

I understand people may have told you that you may need more time, but keep in mind that experience/ability to be staff isn't equal to everyone. There's more that everyone can learn, even the elders, people don't stop learning. From what I know, Than understands the commands he has access to along with the rules strongly enough, as mentioned prior his execution lacked but he's working on that as he said, and I know he's definitely having it down soon enough. I don't know if having more to learn is a valid -1, but from what I've read on both posts, there's many different factors that encouraged -1's on either applications, and yours were completely different from his. Sure he definitely has more to learn, but not enough to encourage a -1 in my opinion. He has too much to offer to get a -1 for just that.

I guess, as I look at the questions as they're answered, I can't seem to find the real substance as to why to go for this kind of promotion.

So to start off with, there are the expectations which in this case are, in essence, the expectations of sentry. Absolutely helping out players and being unbiased are crucial parts of the role but there is very little described that differentiates the duties of a sentry from a guardian here. I get "doing what needs to be done" is supposed to cover those extra things but its just a gloss over.

As for the reasoning for becoming guardian, I find the same lack of solid foundation. What can you do or do better with the guardian rank and its permissions that isn't being fulfilled by your current role? I've read this a few times over and I've only been able to put together "helping out players whenever they need" which is, again, a bit of a gloss over.

It's entirely possible that this just comes down to perspective, but the way I've come to think of it is that you do the job before you get the job. To use Skuhoo as an example, he helped players, answered some questions. That's awesome but that's just the expectations of his sentry post. The additional contributions, Eldritchbot for example, and the obvious extra utility that comes from him having those extra permissions and expectations are what I think really drive a good promotion.

With that, I think you're an awesome guy and this is certainly a possibility some time down the line. Learn what is it to be the role, the commands, responsibilities, and do the job in order to get the job.

And with that, at least for now,

Its a nah from me dog.
