I have just completed my goal of of flattening the mountains in my town so now I can turn my attention back to the library. It's been about 3½ weeks so I'm hoping the majority of feedback has been submitted.
This is the plan:
- On Tuesday, September 2 the library will close for approximately one week.
- During this closure a book deposit box will be placed outside the library doors. All books submitted to this box will be placed in the library by the time the doors open again.
- I will be remodeling and reorganizing to better distinguish each genre and to allow for expansion when needed.
- A section will be added for books that are incomplete, but still contribute good content.
- There will be no cash reward for submitting books, but I will still be raising the requirements for books to be shelved.
- I will be writing fresh instruction manuals containing these requirements and other important information regarding the library and placing them near the entrance.
- Starting once the library re-opens, all approved books in the deposit box will be shelved every Thursday. Rejected books will be copied and the original given back to author.
- Starting in 1.8 I will be hiding, at random intervals, enchanted books in the shelves. And no they won't all be Bane of Arthropods.
If you have any feedback regarding the above then please post in the next few days so I can make any necessary adjustments.
In other news, with 1.8 comes a few changes to how books work. You will be able to copy an original book, which will be labeled as "copy of book x", and then you can make a copy of the copy, will will be labeled as "copy of copy of book x", or with very similar wording. It will then be impossible make a copy of the copy of the copy. So in other words, if you want to copy a book you need either the original book or a copy of the original book. Hopefully that all makes sense.
Keeping these changes in mind, should we place restrictions on books submitted to the library? Should we only allow original books or copies of books into the library? Or should we allow all books? My personal vote is to allow all books, but maybe that's just me.
Finally, for all of you RPers out there if you ever need to hide a book in the library let me or Crypt know. In the past we've had several books hiding on unlabeled shelves that have been a key component to events such as a way to counter the Blight that took over a past world.
Edit: Oh and of course I cannot neglect to mention that Ronshaud has joined the library staff and will be serving as my apprentice.
