Welcome to Part 5 of our Towns 2.0 Update series! Today I'll be briefly breaking down the Alliance system and Embassies and how it works.
Part of this update does include some changes and re-arranging of some of our town perks. Read on to find out what will change.
Alliances
Upon reaching Town Level 6, your town will unlock the ability to form and join Alliances. The current level 6 perk, Well Fed I, has been moved down to level 7.
With the command /g alliance invite <townname>, town owners can propose an alliance with another town (provided they too are level 6+). If the other town accepts, an alliance will be formed with the inviting town becoming the Alliance Leader.
In order to maintain some standardization of Lore and to keep things sounding awesome, the Alliance name will only be able to be set/changed by (at this time) me. We aren't creating the name for you, but it will need to be approved by us. I'll be checking with town owners of alliance towns to ensure the name is agreed upon (be it the new name or a changed name).
At any time, the Alliance Leader town can invite other towns to join the alliance. There is no planned limit to the size of an Alliance, but if that should be a requirement for whatever reason, we can revisit that.
All towns within an Alliance will share an alliance chat, visible to all members of all allied towns. This will function exactly like town chat, with an additional alliance name prefix; for example alliance chat for an alliance called Accord:
Alliances will play a role in the planned Territory system, but what roles those are are still being thought out, so no news on that front. However, being an Alliance grants your town the ability to create:
Embassies
At town level 9, you unlock the ability to create Embassies. These function similarly to town zones in creation, you define an area in which to build an embassy for a town in your alliance.
Embassies are meant to be smaller, and as such they have a maximum radius of 30. Additionally, they can only be setup with a selection, unlike zones which have a radius option and can go from bedrock to sky.
Why build an embassy you ask? For trade of course! Once an embassy zone is defined for an allied town, you then can place one and only one chest within it. When the other town you are allied with builds their embassy for your town, and defines their Embassy Chest, they become linked chests. Any and all items placed in an embassy chest are visible to both chests. In essence, it becomes an Ender Chest that both towns can use to trade items back and forth without having to go to spawn and drop items, etc.
You can have one embassy per allied town. For example, in the Accord alliance, there are only two towns, Dellsmite and Albion. Albion can only build an embassy for Dellsmite in their town and vice versa. Should a third town be added to the alliance, each town can then build two embassies, one for the other allied towns.
These features are currently in development, but I hope to be able to implement Alliances very soon and Embassies very soon after.
The Town Levels at which these features are unlocked are subject to change, so don't treat these as final numbers. As always, ask away if you have questions!
