Ender Pearls

-Enable or disable them. Really, that's about it. Anything else needed to be discussed about them I can add in.

'tis a dream all of my kind hold deep in our hearts.

If there was a way to limit pearls would that be acceptable?
(Depending on the limitation)

Me and asymp both hate them so unlikely, but always happy to listen to any ideas you have.

I have a solution: You can't use them in someone else's gen area, so you can't teleport through walls, but you can still throw Hail Mary's over walls with Prot IV armor and Feather Falling boots.

Yeah that was my original suggestion. Attach them to town protections so you cannot use them if you cannot build. They could then be used to get over a wall if protection is small enough. If it isn't then there are such things as pearl cannons which are difficult to build but can dramatically increase pearl distance. But even then, pearls can't help you get out and unless you manage to throw one in a window you can't get inside a building.

It's basically an alternative to a cannon. Less expensive, less damage, a bit stealthier, but only 1-way.

I suppose something similar to that could work but i would want it to be well tested before we implement it. I would also suggest opening the discussion to the rest of server once all of the admins are in agreement of a system. If we did this we would need a new item to control gens, i suggest a golden shovel.

I would still argue that people will never respect the rules, as uses of them are untraceable there would be nothing stopping someone from glitching around with them as they please, with no one any the wiser.

Welcome to Minecraft.

Yes.

Pretty much. Thieves will want this. Non-thieves won't as it'll mean redoing your walls. To me this one is a pretty big non-issue. We've had no pearls for quite some time now and I just don't see any reason why we need to bring them back in other than people want to be able to steal from others more easily.

I think the thieving population on this server feel like they've been constantly getting screwed with each extra update or rule change, and while I could see this line of thought, I'd like to remind that many things that thieves used to be able to do were all because of exploits, bugs, or unintended features. While this is something to be said of "minecraft", that doesn't mean that we won't attempt to fix these things when we can. Thieves have been able to steal without the use of pearls for some time now, but I'm open to hearing the opinions of the greater server population on this one.

Perhaps with some of these issues where there isn't a clear majority of opinion, we should throw together a few threads with polls and then mention in the server for some of the non-forum members to come voice their opinions.

The issue is that we've been losing vanilla features. Those bugs/glitches were a replacement for what we lost, but when they were fixed (or banned) we never got anything back. If some vanilla features can be returned then I'm sure the thieving population would agree to forget pearls.

The two I would like most (besides pearls) are:

* Boats
- They have many natural functions that can assist with stealing
- Log jumping was removed after 1.3 so they can no longer be used for glitching

* General TNT use
- Back in the olden days we could use TNT as we pleased providing there was some profit in the attack and we didn't damage redstone
- We also used it to attack and destroy generators. Generators aren't vanilla, but it was a vanilla method used to disable them. I strongly believe there should be a way to disable generators, if only temporarily.
- I'm not really sure why it was banned, but probably because the server at that time was generally peaceful and few could defend themselves. That's hardly the case these days.

Just a quick note, I'd like to get the opinions of people who aren't Mag, Crypt, Mop, or Zor (although their thoughts probably matter more than 63 times the thoughts of the rest of the server) before we get an official ruling.

People for: 2

People against: 1

(Changing this as I go along, only counting Sentry and below though)

What natural functions? If you mean the boat through walls thing, then I'm not in favor. It's one thing to steal via vanilla features, but I'm not in favor of vanilla features that can be exploited or glitched for use in traveling through solid blocks.

If you build a wall around your town, that wall should protect you from things otherwise walking through your walls. If you can climb over them, shoot over them, or build high near them to jump over them, fine, but in my opinion, anything that lets you glitch through a wall that wasn't intended to put you through a wall is no bueno.

You can stack them and because gravity applies to boats you can use them to build ladders and stairs. You can also place a boat on top of a building and if you find the right position you can board the boat and come out on top.

To the first thing, that's the same as being able to place blocks within someone else's protected area and pillar over the walls.
To the second, that's just unrealistic and and clearly counts as the exploitation of a bug.
