It was an unfortunate and undesirable situation for all parties. The server had dropped to 2tps due to an issue with what we believe to be the SQL server dying causing tps to spiral down rapidly, eventually taking Loka offline. We respect this is incredibly frustrating and we are trying to isolate the exact cause of the issue and prevent it from happening in the future (this is the same issue that resulted in canceling a recent conquest fight).
In this specific incident players raiding the town began combat during their raid after the servers tps had started to spiral down. This could be seen as opportunistic but they knew what they were getting themselves into when initiating the conflict. After they had obtained some items the server went down and due to the tps issues, did not save properly. This caused a rollback, which took the server back a short length of time. When the server came back online neither the raiders nor the town had the items. The rollback had caused them to go, poof!
This left us as staff with 3 options. Do nothing and don't interfere, return the missing items to the town, or return the missing items to the raiders. Of these options, giving the items to the raiders was the least desirable. They had arguably tried to take advantage of the lag and Loka was rolled back to before they obtained them. On top of this, the defending town was disadvantaged by the low tps, making it very difficult to protect their life/items. The second best option was to not interfere and do nothing. This would have prevented staff from being accused of bias and allow us to put the incident down as something that sucks but everyone has to deal with equally. In the end, we chose to return the missing items, that were lost to the rollback, to the town. This is who owned them at the point the server rolled back to and also seemed preferable to nobody having the items at all. The defending town also had little opportunity to defend themselves due to the tps issues. Much like conquest fights that happen when the server drops to 2tps, reverting things to how they were prior to the server problems is the fairest thing to do.
After reviewing the incident we stand by our original decision and still feel it was the optimal and fairest outcome to an undesirable situation. The arguments suggesting how things would have played out if the server wasn't lagging at 2tps are not really valid or relevant. It is impossible to know what would have happened or how things would have played out. More town members may have been on, frxnkey would've been at a conquest fight and likely wouldn't have accepted the duel, players would have acted differently during the raid etc. We apologize for the lag/tps problems during this incident and we will try to isolate and fix it, so things like this don't happen again.
