Long Lost Memories

Jedoi

From the darkness, a vision appeared. She first noticed the hill, then the stunning buildings atop it. It had been years since she saw it, but it was unmistakable. Her first home, Asgard. She looked out over the terrain, ashamed to say it felt unfamiliar after all these years. The last time the neutral city had graced her sight was when she was a child, long ago. While she was deep in thought, movement caught her attention. She turned to see two children racing up the cobblestone path. She recognized herself and her childhood friend. With a sharp intake of breath, she called out to them, but they did not seem to hear her.

“Jedoi? Hall?” She tried again, using their names. There was no response. Soon, the vison shifted. She found herself in the underwater lab of the Asgardian Scientists Association. The cheerful girl she had seen moments ago was now lying in a bed under quarantine. The Blight. She thought, as buried memories of that plight resurfaced. She watched as the girl that was once her coughed painfully. She promptly turned around and was greeted by a new scene.

A group of friends on horseback were racing through the plains. They arrived at a small settlement with short stone walls. Opening the gate, they entered, and her eyes widened at the sight of her second home. The four friends dismounted, leading their horses to a stable. She followed, laying a hand on the black horse her past self led.

“Shadefire.” She muttered in disbelief. She took a step forward, looking around at the village. A smile appeared on her face, watching herself walk away with Leasaur, Lazuli, and Godemox. She heard them laughing and teasing one another. She took a step to follow them when her sight froze and changed once more.

She saw a face she had not seen in a long time. The person it belonged to donned armour crafted of diamonds and a likewise sword. She watched as that sword swung down on her younger self. The girl vanished and moments later appeared from the Town Portal, donning no armour but carrying an iron sword, determination flashing in the child’s eyes. In less than a minute, Jedoi had been killed again. She stepped back, shaking her head with fury as the raider smiled.

The vision changed again. She saw the towering walls of Dellsmite, rising far above the snowy plains and ice spikes. She smiled at the sight of the city that had been her home far longer than any other. Only happy memories played through her mind before she remembered what she would see next. She began frantically shaking her head, but the next scene was just what she feared. She saw herself once more, no longer a child, rebelling against her friend. She saw Artagan, Leasaur, and Ronshaud standing beside her, across from Lazuli and Steel. Friends, family, divided over something so insignificant. She saw her greatest regret.

She let her breath go when the scene shifted again, her sights now on Citadel. Her tired eyes gazed at the beautiful city, longing to truly be there. She knew it would be ripped from her the moment she smiled. She stared up at the incredible spire, surprised when the memories did not flow through her mind as they had in past scenes. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened them, her eyes beheld none other than the Observer. Preksak flew high above the Artifact, lightning thundering as his harvesters ripped the world apart.

When the next picture surfaced, she gazed stoically at her friends as they built what they thought would be a city that would someday be legend. They were wrong, and it would be no one’s fault but hers. Her friends vanished, leaving Jedoi alone staring at the now empty city. She witnessed a memory that was still fresh in her mind. She watched helplessly as the woman she was only a few months ago left Cerulean City for the last time. If only she had stayed, if only she had tried harder…

With a start, she awoke inside Makosa’s Inn. Jedoi stood up and looked out the window, pondering her peculiar dream. She witnessed the rise and fall of her previous homes. She sighed and prepared to help Lazuli for the day, but one thought was nagging at her. A thought bugging her in the back of her mind. What if I’m watching myself in a memory right now? She shook her head.

Empires were made to fall. Everything that is built eventually returns to the dirt from which is rose. We fight the nature of our own world hoping beyond hope that this time we will overcome forces beyond our comprehension. How foolish are we? Believing we can fight the earth which even we will return to in time.

Her feet seemed to know where she had to be, and a smile graced her face as she entered Makosa's library. Books had always called to her, ever since she was a small child fascinated by Asgard's great library. The pages upon which famous and unknown authors alike poured their soul's work sang a song which could not be ignored.

She approached a bookshelf, brushing her hands over the spines of the many stores that sat upon it, stirring up dust which danced in the sunlight. She watched it for a moment then turned to an enderchest in the middle of the building.

She opened it and took out a single item. She promptly closed it and took a seat in one of the reading chairs. Cradling the item in her hands, she stared at it, letting the memory of it's obtainment course through her mind. Her most prized possession shone with a bright white glow, a glow that had guided her in the dark many times.

It was a gift given to her long ago by one of her first allies and friends. One who featured in both her earliest and latest memories..

"Crypt! Art! Look what I found!" The child that was once Jedoi called. She looked up at them with wide eyes and revealed a single feather. The Warden of Asgard exchanged a glance with The Loremaster and the two smiled.

"I would like to end my status as a Sentry. I was proud to serve for the time that has passed, but I no longer feel up to the duties I should be doing..." The woman Jedoi had become stated.
"You're sure?" Cryptite asked, a concerned look upon his face.
"Yes. It was an honour, but I don't think I can carry on with this status." She answered.
He nodded. "The honour was mine as well, Jedoi." Cryptite replied kindly. "May the Gods be with you on your travels."

The Gift of Endurance. It was given to her when she and three friends remained strong, persevered better than others during a dark, idle time Loka once passed through. As always, the sun would rise, but during the ordeal it seemed as if perhaps it never would. The Gift of Endurance...
"I have no longer endured." Jedoi mumbled sadly, caressing the Gift.
A thought crossed her mind, and she almost dismissed it, but paused. She considered it. And moments later, she made her decision.
"I have no longer endured." She repeated, standing up. "But countless others have. Imagine... Could I pass my Gift onto another? Another worthy of this Gift? Another who has endured?" Jedoi paced the room, thoughts flying through her mind as she carefully considered every Lokan who immediately came to mind. Many faces and names appeared and disappeared before she knew who it had to be.
He had endured, and he was certainly worthy. Jedoi could trust him to keep it safe, and perhaps one day even pass the Gift on to another. He was a good person, and he had a passion for this world that burned brighter than most. Jedoi had always considered him young, before she realised how long he had really been imprisoned by the Artifact. But he didn't think of it as imprisonment, no, he had always seemed to love it. She smiled and stared at the Gift.
"This is a good idea, right?" She asked no one in particular. The silence was not reassuring, but what did she expect? She left the library and went to find the one worthy of Jedoi's Gift of Endurance.

This is my notice of inactivity. Some may have noticed I've not been playing very often, and it's hard to explain why. In short, Loka feels very different now. I'm not sure how long I'll be "inactive". It could be a few months, it could be year, it could be much longer than that. Who knows what he future holds?

I choose today in particular to post this, as exactly three years ago, on this day, I joined Loka for the first time. The three years that followed saw some of the best times of my life, and never will they be forgotten.

I'll probably try to be present for any events, and I'll almost definitely check the forums multiple times a day.

I'm thankful for the many friends I've made over the years, for the experiences I've had. I've changed a lot since I joined Loka and I like to think for the better. I wish everyone fantastic luck in all their ventures... Farewell for now.

Best of luck, Jedoi! I'm sure we'll still see you around from time to time.

Loka will ever be a home when you need it.

We haven't talked much over the years (years? over a block game?), but I realized that the few times we did talk you apologized for things you didn't do which reflects who you are. Maybe you remember you sharing the story of you at the pool with your younger relatives and how you were beating them badly which made them mad at you and quit? First time someone related to me through a block game, and I appreciated that.

You will truly be missed...

So good luck on your travels be it by land, air, or sea because I know you will always try your hardest to make even the most depressed of people happy, for you are the bringer of good days and new beginnings so for now farewell and have fun I will see you sailing off into the sun on the boat made of Lore forever more! For this is not the end on god no, its the beginning! So until the end, I and Loka will never forget the true Jedoi knight who Endured even in the brightest of light!

Thank you! Very, very, very, much for being my friend and helping me through difficult times on Loka... When and if you leave I do hope you return someday to a prosperous and amazing server again in which I will still Endure forever until the end! Aww, Jedoi! I never even knew ya! Heh, just kidding, no salt here. I'll see you around! You've probably never even met me (I'm newer to the server) but I hope that changes in the future. Would love to get to know you better once you're active, and I can't wait to see more of your amazing lore threads. See you around Jedoi!

Doesn't feel like years, does it? I remember that story, I'm glad you do as well. I hope things have been better for you since we last talked.

And thank you, Gab, for the spirit you've shown to all those around you. I hope you stay that way, even when it's hard. "There are friends, there is family, and there are friends who become family." ~Unknown
