The randomness of the map and coordinates will provide vanilla-random challenge and should be interesting enough to not require man-made generated terrain which feels more like a pre-made race. The point of this marathon is to simulate vanilla challenge
Why not make it so you go through every biome on your way to 15k?
Will the borders shrink?
Regular biomes, random map, 15k length, 100 blocks width minimum. Starts at 1k width and slowly decays to 100
(1 block/second = 15 minutes)
Would we be allowed to break blocks and collect resources/gear?
Decaying at a rate of 1 block per second would be a bit fast, especially since you're running 15k blocks, which will take MUCH longer than 15 minutes.
I would say decaying at a rate of 2 blocks per 10 seconds (2 blocks, one on each edge of the 1k wide axis so that it doesn't decay awkwardly) would be better, since it lasts for 1.25 hours instead of 15 minutes.
I guess that would be a matter of testing what feels best. Players need be slowly forced into the middle part of the track, and indeed I think 1 block/second would be a bit too fast. The point is to make the track at 100 width not when the first player has reached the goal but instead when the race is halfway completed or even 1/3.
the guy in the lead could easily sabotage the track that's already getting narrower by the minute. Also, I'm not sure some people wouldn't just ignore the race and take advantage of the PvP to attack anyone they could, or even just certain people, without actually trying to win.
I'd say the reward either ought to be something easily transferable from person to person, like a title, or Crypt could just hand out a new trophy every time there's a new race.
Also, if you can break blocks, can you place blocks? Because if you could, the guy in the lead could easily sabotage the track that's already getting narrower by the minute. Also, I'm not sure some people wouldn't just ignore the race and take advantage of the PvP to attack anyone they could, or even just certain people, without actually trying to win.
Potential problems aside this sounds pretty epic. I'll definitely participate.
