Marathon race!

There should be a parkour section if the map where you climb up a mountain or somthing. Also there should be biom transitions and a cave section.

The randomness of the map and coordinates will provide vanilla-random challenge and should be interesting enough to not require man-made generated terrain which feels more like a pre-made race. The point of this marathon is to simulate vanilla challenge

Agreed, this will be an entirely vanilla experience, basically. It'll be anybody's guess (other than mine) what biomes you'll go through, etc. It may be 50% ocean, but such is the brilliance of the race.

Regular biomes, random map, 15k length, 100 blocks width minimum. Starts at 1k width and slowly decays to 100
(1 block/second = 15 minutes)

Spawns at predefined random locations, everyone has same amount of blocks between each other.

Death means elimination.

No random powerups or loot chests.

No pvp restrictions.

Decaying at a rate of 1 block per second would be a bit fast, especially since you're running 15k blocks, which will take MUCH longer than 15 minutes.

I would say decaying at a rate of 2 blocks per 10 seconds (2 blocks, one on each edge of the 1k wide axis so that it doesn't decay awkwardly) would be better, since it lasts for 1.25 hours instead of 15 minutes.

Would we be allowed to break blocks and collect resources/gear?

Of course! That's part of the marathon, since you can kill other players too if you wish! It'll be a challenge to find a good balance between focusing on travel and focusing on staying alive!

I guess that would be a matter of testing what feels best. Players need be slowly forced into the middle part of the track, and indeed I think 1 block/second would be a bit too fast. The point is to make the track at 100 width not when the first player has reached the goal but instead when the race is halfway completed or even 1/3.

So I just looked some stuff up, and running at a constant sprint, no jumping, flat terrain, and with infinite food but no eating would take just under 45 minutes to complete the track, add navigating terrain, fighting mobs, swimming, eating, gathering food, and defending yourself against the other players, and it would probably take more like 1.25 hours - 1.5 hours. So using that we would probably want a decay rate of 2 blocks per 4 seconds or so. That would make it run down in 30 minutes which is between 1/3 and 2/5 of the time I estimated before. If it turns out the run actually takes longer, we could just slow down the decay rate.

I'd say the reward either ought to be something easily transferable from person to person, like a title, or Crypt could just hand out a new trophy every time there's a new race.

Also, if you can break blocks, can you place blocks? Because if you could, the guy in the lead could easily sabotage the track that's already getting narrower by the minute. Also, I'm not sure some people wouldn't just ignore the race and take advantage of the PvP to attack anyone they could, or even just certain people, without actually trying to win.

Potential problems aside this sounds pretty epic. I'll definitely participate.

I'm in favor of a narrowing track, but perhaps not one that ends with people being funneled into a 5 wide lane. Most likely we'll wait until 1.8 comes out at least for this so we can use the new world border feature as well.

All part of the game.

Your profile pic and Ron's look so similar... At first I thought Ron wrote that and was like "Who is on Ron's account? This is not his grammar...."
