Naming items?
As in naming a sword some sort of cool name like 'Excalibur'?

Correct. So you can repair items, name them, and/or combine two items with different enchants and receive said item with all enchants combined.

That is amazingly awesome.

Can you repair enchanted items while keeping the enchant?

Thats what its for mostly. Otherwise you can do the other repair trick but where you lose the enchantment

It costs XP though and at the moment, though you can level up past 50, it will not allow you to do repairs that require anything higher than 50.

Bug #1: Paintings can overlap other paintings which does not look very pretty.

What I've noticed:

-Carrots seem to be a 1/100 drop from zombies
-Potatoes are about 1/200
-TNT can't actually go through nether portals
-Chance to get a piece of armor from a mob is about 1/500
-Carrots and Potatoes will not be dropped if you do not have some sort of contact with the mob (like xp)
-Rendering is bad, rendering new nether chunks is extremely laggy
-There seems to be some kind of nether fog which reduces visibility a little bit
-We're supposed to be limited to 15 levels every 15 minutes from mobs which spawn from spawners, haven't run many tests but this seems to be be false
- Protection armor absorbs some drowning damage
- Using plain diamond armor and a plain bow I died to a wither in about 6 seconds... when I respawned the wither was invisible
- Wither skulls are about a 1/50 drop

With a smite sword and some reasonable armour, I was able to slay the wither first time, it took out all the hostile mobs trying to attack me as well, which is quite handy

So what we're missing on the server is....

Bats
WItches
Wither Skeletons
Naturally spawning blazes
Nether travel (for mobs and items)

And villagers, intentional or not.

/me spouts not so crazy theories on how magpieman is behind nerfing it all.

All of those things don't really need nerfing though. Actually, i'm sure mag has found a way of saying that bats are overpowered in some way...

asy most likely installed the beta build of bukkit that was released. Given that it's not the usual full-on recommended build, that may be the reason we're missing some stuff.

Yeah... I figure he had bad luck choosing the least buggy Dev build. Still it's better than no 1.4.

And I forgot to mention the mass pilgrimage of the NPCs.
