Fruit Info: While it can be cultivated and used as a herb, it’s pretty rare to see our fruit of the day today actually being grown for harvest. This fruit is native to China and Serbia, and when it is actually grown it’s usually as a novelty.

Fruit Info: For our fruit of the day today we have the Virginia Strawberry/Wild Strawberry/Common Strawberry/Mountain Strawberry/Fragaria virginiana. This fruit is an octoploid cousin, meaning it has 8 copies of each chromosome, of the strawberry we all know and love. The exact process and hybridization that lead to it being octoploid is unknown.

Fruit Info: Today for our fruit of the day we have a dark red durian relative. Today’s fruit definitely looks more menacing than his rather more unassuming cousins. This fruit is known for smelling like turpentine, but also having the sweetest taste of all of the durians.

Fruit Info: The pepper vine is native to the southeast region of the United States along with Texas and New Mexico. The brightly colored berries are attractive to wildlife, but despite this the berries are possibly poisonous to humans.

Fruit Info: For our fruit of the day today we have the baboon grape or dune grape, which scientifically speaking is called Rhoicissus digitata. It is indigenous to Southern Africa, and it has a wide variety of ornamental uses as well as roles in traditional medicine.
