March 9th, Day 1023: Yaupon

Fruit Info: Today we have the Yaupon, or Yaupon Holly, as our fruit of the day. Scientifically known as Ilex vomitoria. This fruit is native to the southeastern United States where Native Americans have used it to make an infusion with caffeine. This little drupe mainly gets around thanks to birds.

Fruit Info: Ilex × attenuata, the topal holly, is the result of a cross between Ilex cassine (dahoon) and Ilex opaca American holly). It is a naturally occurring hybrid found in the southeastern United States where the ranges of the parents overlap, but hybrid cultivars have also been created. Fruit Info: For our fruit of the day today we have the Kashi Holly, Ilex chinensis. It is a native to Vietnam, southern China, Taiwan, and varying regions of Japan. It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of traditional Chinese medicine.

Fruit Info: For our fruit of the day today we have the Okinawa Holly Berry. It’s another Holly berry. It’s red, it grows somewhere, it looks a little pretty. The end.

Fruit Info: Native to Vietnam, Laos, China, India, Myanmar, and more, this fruit is a very widely spread fellow. This fruit can be seen in the image below (it may or may not be the winged thing).

Fruit Info: For our fruit of the day today we have the strawberry clover, a lovely and weird type of clover fruit. It is a native to parts of Europe, Asia and Africa, and it is invasive to North America.

Fruit Info: Today out fruit of the day comes from the red clover, Trifolium pratense. That being said, that’s about all I can find on this fruit so uh, yeah.

March 19th, Day 1033: Chinese White Pear

Fruit Info: Pyrus bretschneideri, also known as the Ya Pear or Pearple is our fruit of the day. It is a hybrid species of pear native to north China. This fruit is, interestingly, closer I’m shape to the European pears than the Asian ones.

Fruit Info: Today we have the snow pear as our fruit of the day. With a natural range from southeast Europe to west Asia, this fruit is capable of growing in many different environments. This fruit can be eaten raw or cooked, but no matter what you do be warned that it may surprise you with a slightly sour taste.

Fruit Info: Pyrus pashia is the wild Himalayan pear, a species of pear native to South Asia. This fruit is known for having a sweet but slightly astringent taste when mature. According to Wikipedia it is best to eat this fruit when it is slightly decaying, which is weird.

Fruit Info: Pyrus calleryana is a native fruit to China and Vietnam. It is widely known for its cultivar the “bradford pear” which is notorious for its stench. This fruit is largely considered inedible because it’s seeds are so heavily laced with cyanide that it may be dangerous.
