Regarding the upcoming sorters...

Do we have any more details on those? I'm curious not only how they will work, but if we will need to move everything out of existing chests for things to sort properly.

You will likely be tearing down the vast majority of any sorters you have (excluding various little auto-smelters or autobrewers, etc). Once Ender Storage is released, we'll be dropping the hopper maximum on towns from 2000 to (likely) 500. This is because there just aren't many reasons to have hoppers for any kind of big storage once this system is out.

Ender Storage works by letting you define single-trapped chests in town as input chests (where you can dump items to be stored). Any ES Input chest, upon closing, will automatically store all valid items. They'll be removed from the chests's inventory and play a sound if storage occurs. Valid items are defined as non-special (not soulbound, lored, custom, etc). You can make as many of these as you'd like. Additionally, you'll be able to feed into ES Input Chests with hoppers if you want, meaning your autobrewer could all filter into one input chest so that you can pull from potion output chests wherever you place them (war rooms, usually).

For getting things out of Ender Storage, you will define one regular, single-chest per item (like a current sorter) as also defined by an item frame. Opening this chest will show you the entire storage you have of the item which you can then freely pull from. So you can only have one chest you can get Dirt out of, for example.

Only question I have now is when we can expect the new limit (whichever number that might be), to be in place? I imagine for people with rather large storage rooms the simplest way to switch over to this new system will be to use hoppers/item elevators to move their items into this new input chest so they don't have to spend hours moving items manually.

You've mentioned lored items, does this include imbued, harvested or mined in town items from industries? If so is it possible for these to be acceptions?

To make the transition easier, we'd likely feather this decrease and give people a week or so to make necessary adjustments to their systems.

Most likely these items would be purged of their lore and become regular items. The system doesn't store the various difference in items (currently, but will need to for certain types of items). In the case of basic items, it only knows you have X of DIRT, and that's all it tracks.

So let's say you have stored 5 dubs of dirt. When you open the output chest for dirt, what do you see? A single chest of dirt? An GUI allowing you to move through multiple "pages"?

Edit: Would this system work for enchant books as well?

Edit edit: Can outsiders access this type of storage?

It shows a 54-slot (double chest) inventory with pages of all the stored items.

It'll work for most types of items. This is being figured out atm, since not all autosorters sort every MC item. In the case of enchanted books, it'll probably be a single chest for ALL enchanted books and not a chest per every enchanted book type, etc.

We'll likely collapse some item types together where it makes sense to (like enchanted books), for sanity.

Can outsiders access this type of storage?

Yes.
