Why Loka Needs to Remove Ganking. A Psychological Thesis and Philosophical Perspective on The Mind of The Loka Ganker. By Mimo Four.

As I do agree with almost all that was said in this very superb post. I do have one note, in the post you proclaim "That can still be fixed. Turn your back on ganking and Zyre, and embrace what makes the server special" (what makes Loka special is Conquest, towns, community and PvE). The reason players went ganking in the first place is to fill the void between fights. outside of the almost meagre amount of fights per day and in this mostly unbalanced alliances most times the fights aren't as fun for both teams. most fights on loka aren't an equal fight (equal number of players on each side). and ganking is the only place a where each person can control the time of the fight and if its a 1v1/2v2 (just bigger fights in total). ganking does bring a more intimate kind of pvping.

Thank you Mimo4 for submitting your thesis for this year. After reading this I have decided you will be repeating my class on writing as you have not fufilled our academic standards for thesis writing. Here are some reasons why I have decided to give you a 60% on this assignment:
  1. Organization and Structure: The post is lengthy and lacks clear organization. It could benefit from a more structured approach with headings or bullet points to make it easier for readers to follow the main arguments.
  2. Clarity and Conciseness: The author uses a lot of metaphorical language and comparisons, such as comparing ganking addiction to pornography addiction. While metaphors can be useful, they should enhance understanding, not obscure it. Some points could be made more clearly and concisely.
  3. Evidence and Examples: The post makes several claims about the Loka community and ganking but lacks specific examples or data to support these claims. Providing concrete examples or anecdotes would strengthen the argument.
  4. Tone and Language: The post uses strong language at times, such as calling gankers "addicts" and comparing them to "meth-heads." While it's important to address issues, maintaining a respectful and empathetic tone is essential for constructive discussion.
  5. Proposed Solutions: The post discusses the problems at length but doesn't offer many concrete solutions to address the issues raised. It would be beneficial to provide actionable recommendations for how the community and server can improve.
  6. Engagement and Empathy: While it's clear that the author has strong opinions, there's a lack of engagement with potential counterarguments or differing perspectives. Engaging with opposing viewpoints and showing empathy for different player preferences would make the argument more balanced.
  7. Repetitiveness: The post repeats some points multiple times, particularly regarding the addictive nature of ganking. Streamlining the argument and avoiding unnecessary repetition would make it more engaging.
  8. Grammar and Spelling: There are minor grammatical and punctuation issues throughout the post. Proofreading for these issues would improve readability.

I loved this very much. I have things to say:
  • They're just gonna gank somewhere else, whether it's Loka or not. One does not simply take the gank out of the ganker.
  • If you wanna call ganking an addiction, you might as well call gaming an addiction too. We all gunnin' for that dopamine hit.
  • Zyre was purpose-built to become whatever it needed to be whenever. So while current "old" Zyre is basically dead, we always knew we'd be able to do something to it, like basically turn it into a scheduled short-duration Battle Royale (or literally any number of things).
  • Other than refreshing things here and there (cove, mutators, etc), we've long been working towards adding things to do on Loka that aren't just for PvP. Hence oceans, ocean temple, etc. We feel that PvP is in a very good and diverse place for a bit; we're ready to add things to Loka that can help bring in whole other types of minecrafters.
I also think this would be a fun thing to talk about next SOTS.

Any other FFA server? Ours might be special, but in the end it's still just a nicer-looking small zone to click people to your heart's content. I see as much toxicity (frankly, more) on other servers that aren't even like Loka or even really have PvP. It's not a feature of ganking, it's a feature of the internet.

Loka ganking dopamine > FFA dopamine

The dopamine of killing someone on loka is way higher it’s not even slightly similar

I mean gaming in general is all just small dopamine hits. You might aswell just call gaming an addiction too. I do think zyre cove does need objectives like CTF or a KOTH kind of system for rewards.

But gank isle is just a cope for conquest, conquest fights are usually not balance and it ends up in one team dogpilling the other, fair conquest fights are extremely rare to find.
In cove you can usually find 1v1's, or 2v2s, you are in control of the situation and you can feel you can finally get a fair fight.
It is true that its extremely addicting, and even as an argument on your favour I would also say that it even encourages cheating, theres a lot of people who start cheating to be better in cove or to get a higher rank in ranked.

In the end, conquest fights are rare, a lot of the times they dont happen especially in months where theres school, or on months where theres exams and people dont have a lot of time besides on weekends, and even in these situations a GOOD conquest fight where both sides are fair and equal is even harder to find. To compensate for this (Lack of time) people just go to cove where they can pvp for a couple of hours, and just go, as opposed to going to place, waiting for 1h doing nothing and then fighting for 20-30m.
