The changes listed below are features and observations made from the recent 1.9 snapshots. Nothing is concrete and many things are likely to change before the official 1.9 release. I will only list features that are of some relevance to Loka and survival players.

Shulkers
- Added Shulkers
- They have fifteen hearts
- Spawn exclusively in Ender Cities located in the End
- Disguises itself as a block until approached
- Attacks by launching a projectile that seeks the target and deals two hearts of damage
- If struck by the projectile you are given the new Levitation potion effect for a few seconds
- Projectiles can be destroyed by attacking them
- Shulkers are immune to arrows while disguised as blocks, though swords can always damage them. Shuckers take less damage from swords when in block form.
- Can be moved with Pistons or Minecarts
- Occasionally teleports around while in combat or when pushed with pistons into other blocks
Ender Dragon
- Modified the Ender Dragon boss fight
- Dragon occasionally shoots purple flames from its mouth, damaging nearby players
- Purple flames can be collected to brew Lingering Potions
- Can occasionally shoot fireballs which can be deflected similar to Ghasts
- Some of its crystals are now caged in Iron Bars to damage from arrows
- More fiercely defends its crystals as they destroyed
- Can be respawned with a craftable Ender Crystal (not yet implemented)
- Respawned dragons drop less XP and do not drop Dragon Eggs
Miscellaneous
- Hostile mobs now have attack animations
- Skeletons now draw back their bows when shooting arrows
- Endermen no longer lose aggression when forced to teleport due to water
- Zombie Villagers now have classes similar to normal Villagers

- Added Chorus Plants
- Spawn naturally on End islands in large clusters
- Can be broken with the fist or any tool and will cause any attached plants to drop
- Drops 0-1 Chorus Fruit per plants
- Can be grown by planting Chorus flowers on End Stone in any dimension
- Once planted will slowly sprout and climb upward
Chorus Flowers
- Added Chorus Flowers
- Spawns occasionally in Chorus Plant clusters
- Has five growth stages
- Can be broken with the fist or any tool
- Will not drop if its supporting Chorus Plant is destroyed. Must manually pick them.
Dragon Head
- Added Dragon Heads
- Unknown how to obtain
- Can be worn and will open and close its mouth as the player moves
- Also opens and closes its mouth if placed with a redstone signal powering it
End Rod
- Added End Rods
- Naturally spawns in Ender Cities
- No known crafting recipe
- Emits a light level of 14, the same as torches
- Can be placed on any block in any orientation
- Can be broken with the fist or any tool
- Is a solid surface and can be walked on
End Stone Bricks
- Added End Stone Bricks
- Crafted with a 2x2 square of End Stone
- Generates naturally in Ender Cities
- Much more fragile and easier to mine than End Stone
- Must be mined with a pickaxe
- Added Purpur blocks
- Crafted with a 2x2 square of Popped Chorus Fruit
- Generates naturally in Ender Cities
- Has a pillar, stair, and slab variant
End Gateway Portal
- Added End Gateway Portals
- Spawns in the End after the Ender Dragon has been defeated
- Must be travelled through via Ender Pearls, Boat, or Minecart
- Transports you to the Ender Islands where you can explore an infinite number of islands containing Chorus Plants and Ender Cities
- A second End Gateway Portal will appear on the island side where you arrive, but these are the only two that will ever spawn (naturally)
Grass Path
- Added Grass Paths
- Created by right-clicking grass blocks with a shovel
- Is 15/16 of a full block
- Reverts to dirt when picked up, even with Silk Touch
- Ice can be placed below a path to travel more quickly
Miscellaneous
- Armor Stands can now dual wield
- Dead Bushes can now drop sticks when destroyed
- Trapdoors can be moved with pistons and no longer require supporting blocks
- The inventory icons for Pressure Plates, Chests, and Stairs have been adjusted slightly
- Glass Panes and Iron Bars now look slightly different when placed individually

- Added potion-tipped arrows
- Spectral Arrows are crafted with four Glowstone Dust around one arrow
- When hit by a Spectral Arrow an aura appears around the hit entity which reveals its shape even through blocks
- The color of the aura changes depending on the player's team color (if a team exists)
- Currently no recipe for potion-tipped arrows
- The type of arrow you're firing now appears in your bow as you draw the bow
- Arrows held in the off-hand slot are prioritized over any other arrows in your inventory
Beetroot Seeds
- Added Beetroot Seeds
- Spawns naturally within Ender Cities and Villages
- Planted in Tilled Soil to grow Beets
- Grows the same as any other vegetable
- Added Beetroots
- Grown from Beetroot Seeds
- Restores one hunger point (
- Used to craft Beetroot Soup
- Can be crafted into Red Dye
- Added Beetroot Soup
- Crafted from six Beetroot and a Bowl
- Restores 3 hunger points when consumed

- Crafted with Wool, Wood, and Iron
- Banners can be added on for lower resolution designs
- Can be held in the main hand and off-hand
- Blocks damages from all arrows that hit the shield and reduces damage from swords that hit the shield
- Can be disabled when hit with an axe
Miscellaneous
- Splash Water Bottles have been added. They extinguish fires when thrown at them.
- Potion colors have been adjusted to more closely match their recipes
- Lingering potions have been added which are like splash potions but they leave a cloud behind that applies the potion effect
- Maps, when held in the off-hand slot, now act as a mini-map
- Fishing Rods have a new inventory icon when they have been cast into water
- Ender Pearls have a short cooldown between throws

Game Mechanics

Combat
- Swords can no longer be used to block damage
- Base damage of all weapons/tools has been modified
- All weapons/tools now have an attack speed
- Enchantments and potion effects have been modified
- Armor is now generally weaker and armor bonuses degrade with durability
- When any creature takes damage they will drop heart particles
- Added a new off-hand slot
- Press 'F' to move an item to the off-hand slot
- Right-click now uses the off-hand item while left-click uses the main hand
- You can dual wield weapons but it will not benefit you in combat
- Bows only take up the main hand
- Arrows placed in the off-hand slot will have priority over any other arrows
- Golden Apples have been rebalanced and nerfed
- Spawns randomly in the Ender Islands
- Contains Shulkers, Ender Stone Bricks, Purpur blocks, End Rods, and chests with loot
- Spawns randomly near Ender Cities
- Contains the same materials as an Ender City with the addition of a single Brewing Stand
- Nether fog has been removed
- Status effects now display in the top-right corner of the screen
- The "Glow" effect has been added which is naturally given by Spectral Arrows
- The "Levitation" effect has been added which causes you to slowly rise into the sky. Naturally given by Shulker attacks.
